Effect of edge transmission and elastic scattering on the resistance of magnetic barriers

open access: yes, 2007
Strong magnetic barriers are defined in two-dimensional electron gases by magnetizing dysprosium ferromagnetic platelets on top of a Ga[Al]As heterostructure. A small resistance across the barrier is observed even deep inside the closed regime.

Quantification of Local Hemodynamic Alterations Caused by Virtual Implantation of Three Commercially Available Stents for the Treatment of Aortic Coarctation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Patients with coarctation of the aorta (CoA) are prone to morbidity including atherosclerotic plaque that has been shown to correlate with altered wall shear stress (WSS) in the descending thoracic aorta (dAo).

Mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width in vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesPlatelets, 2013
Activated platelets play a substantial role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and atherothrombosis. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is an early marker of platelet activation, which is linked to a variety of pro-thrombotic and pro-inflammatory diseases. This study is to examine the association between platelet indices and vascular dementia (VaD) and AD.

The Cuttlebone Blueprint for Multifunctional Metamaterials: Design Taxonomy, Functional Decoupling, and Future Horizons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...

Mathematical modeling of thrombus formation in idealized models of aortic dissection: Initial findings and potential applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aortic dissection is a major aortic catastrophe with a high morbidity and mortality risk caused by the formation of a tear in the aortic wall. The development of a second blood filled region defined as the “false lumen” causes highly disturbed flow ...

A Sacrificial 3D Printed Vessel‐on‐Chip Demonstrates a Versatile Approach to Model Granulation Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A novel method that combines 3D printing and organ‐on‐chip technology enables the creation of hollow channels lined with endothelial cells through a fibroblast‐populated connective tissue matrix. The model supports stable metabolic culture conditions, angiogenic sprouting, and immune cell migration, thereby demonstrating an easy and versatile method to

Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of the electronic local density of states of graphite surfaces near monoatomic step edges

open access: yes, 2006
We measured the electronic local density of states (LDOS) of graphite surfaces near monoatomic step edges, which consist of either the zigzag or armchair edge, with the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) techniques.

Hybrid Nanofibers for Multimodal Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of wound healing scaffolds based on biocompatible nanofibers. Nanofibers offering high surface area, flexibility, and biocompatibility significantly improved the healing outcome in vivo. Histological, immunological, and anti‐inflammatory markers are noticeably better in treated wounds.

Relationship Between Platelet Distribution Width and Papillary Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesVan Tıp Dergisi, 2017
INTRODUCTION: Thyroid nodules are the most common disease of the thyroid gland. The main objective of the present study was to provide an answer to one question: 'Is it possible to acquire information about malignancy potential of thyroid nodules using ...
