Indicators of platelet turnover in thrombocytopenic infants
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1997Glycocalicin has been found to be a marker of increased platelet turnover, while interleukin‐6 may be increased in response to thrombocytopenia. We used these markers to study the pathophysiology of thrombocytopenia in newborn infants. Cord blood platelet counts were obtained from 499 infants.

Effect of filtration, storage and platelet suspension media on platelet indices
Transfusion Science, 1994We describe a new approach for assessing filtration-induced changes in cellular indices of platelet concentrates at the beginning and the end of storage, using pairs of identical packs. The results revealed that post-filtered products did not store as well as their counterparts.

Platelet indices as quality markers of platelet concentrates during storage.
Clinical and laboratory haematology, 2004The quality of platelet concentrates (PC) is an important issue in transfusion therapy. Recently, platelet indices have been used as markers for the quality control of PCs, as these reflect storage-induced shape changes in platelets. We also analyzed platelet indices such as platelet count, which could be detrimental and influence the rate of pH change

Circulating Platelet Aggregates Indicative of in Vivo Platelet Activation in Pulmonary Hypertension
Angiology, 1993The authors investigated the existence of circulating cellular aggregates in 12 patients with moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension, using scanning elec tron microscopy. Peripheral venous blood was collected in the presence of 11.5 mM buffered ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, in order to disperse freshly formed disaggregable aggregates ...

Platelet Count and Platelet Indices in Neonatal Sepsis
Background: Neonatal sepsis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns, particularly in low-resource settings. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for improving outcomes, but clinical signs are often non-specific. Platelet count and platelet indices, such as mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW), have ...T. V. Niharika +1 more
