Status of Platelet Collection and Platelet Transfusion
Therapeutic Apheresis, 2001Abstract: Platelet product derived from single donor plateletpheresis is required to reduce the risks of adverse reactions by blood transfusion. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the status of platelet collection and its efficacy by various kinds of plateletpheresis equipment and to assess the achievement of platelet transfusion by platelet ...

Guidelines for Platelet Transfusion
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1988Thirty years ago platelet transfusions were not available. Thrombocytopenic bleeding led to morbidity and mortality in patients with aplastic anemia and hematologic malignancies. Now, platelet transfusions generally are as available as any physician wishes. Platelet transfusions are of unquestionably proven benefit for the correction of thrombocytopenia or functional platelet disorders, and they have allowed for more intensive antineoplastic therapy. With the advent of blood component therapy most modern blood banks now have the capabilities for supplying at least limited quantities of platelets ...

Trigger for Platelet Transfusion
Vox Sanguinis, 2000Background and Objectives:The terms ‘platelet transfusion trigger’ are used in the scientific literature to indicate a value of the platelet count above which prophylactic platelet transfusion is usually not indicated. Most clinicians share the currently prevalent consensus published in several guidelines that a platelet transfusion trigger of 10,000 ...
