Melting the Platinum Group Metals

open access: yesPlatinum Metals Review, 2009
Some fifty years ago Donald McDonald wrote in Platinum Metals Review on ‘The History of the Melting of Platinum’() and Leslie B. Hunt marked the event’s bicentenary in ‘The First Real Melting of Platinum: Lavoisier’s Ultimate Success with Oxygen’(), which is also covered in the invaluable “A History of Platinum and its Allied Metals” ().

Accelerated Discovery of High Performance Ni3S4/Ni3Mo HER Catalysts via Bayesian Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Integrated workflow accelerates the catalyst discovery of hydrogen evolution reaction via Bayesian optimization. An experiment‐trained surrogate model proposes synthesis conditions, guiding iterative refinement using electrochemical performance metrics.

Deposition of platinum-group metals in sediment and water bodies along the coastal belt of Ghana [PDF]

open access: yesMaejo International Journal of Science and Technology, 2011
Water and sediment samples from seven water bodies along the coastal belt of Ghana were assessed for the deposition of platinum-group metals (PGM), i.e. platinum, palladium and rhodium.

Preparation and evaluation of advanced electrocatalysts for phosphoric acid fuel cells [PDF]

open access: yes
Results are presented for hydrogen oxidation and hydrogen oxidation poisoned by carbon monoxide at levels between 0 and 30%. Due to the high activities that are now being observed for our platinum based electrocatalysts, the hydrogen concentrations were ...

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.

Temperature-dependent 2D-3D growth transition of ultra-thin Pt films deposited by PLD

open access: yes, 2012
During the growth of metal thin films on dielectric substrates at a given deposition temperature T, the film's morphology is conditioned by the magnitude and asymmetry of up- and downhill diffusion.
