Study on the settlement of raft foundations by different methods

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
In order to study effects of the size, the stiffness of foundation, and the applied load on the thickness of compressed zone and the settlement of raft foundations, this paper analyze methods of settlement calculation such as the method of summation of ...

Settlement Analysis of a Large Pile Group Supporting an LNG Storage Tank

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 49, Issue 16, Page 3858-3879, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks are often supported by large pile groups (>100 piles). The design of such foundations is generally governed by settlement rather than bearing capacity. However, minimal information is available regarding the settlement performance of the LNG tank foundations. This article first presents a comprehensive

Kinematic Limit Analysis of Roof Stability for Elliptical Tunnels in Rock Masses

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 49, Issue 16, Page 3880-3896, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Noncircular cross‐sections are commonly encountered in engineering practice; however, primary attempts to analyze roof stability have focused on circular and rectangular configurations. This study investigates the roof stability of elliptical tunnels with varying aspect ratios, employing two semi‐analytical approaches: piecewise linear and ...

Behavior of ring footing resting on reinforced sand subjected to eccentric-inclined loading

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2018
Ring footings are suitable for the structures like tall transmission towers, chimneys, silos and oil storages. These types of structures are susceptible to horizontal loads (wind load) in addition to their dead weight.

Comparative 2D Finite Element Analysis of Soil–Cement Block and Column Reinforcements for Deep Excavation Support

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2025.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of soil–cement reinforcement configurations in deep excavations using 2D FEM analysis. It investigates two different approaches to represent soil–cement reinforcement and compares them, showing that blocks reduce lateral deflections by 60%–64% and bending moments by 22% compared to columns.

Factors affecting the lateral contribution of a raft in a piled raft system

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2023
Contribution of the raft to lateral loads in a piled raft foundation system can be influenced by various factors including vertical contact pressure, number of piles, pile length, and spacing to diameter s/d ratios.
