Checklist of the Plecoptera of Brazilian Amazon (Insecta: Plecoptera: Perlidae)

The species diversity of the Plecoptera of the Brazilian Amazon is still little known, although some localities have been relatively well-studied. A preliminary list of 27 valid Plecoptera species, based on collections from 66 different localities is presented.

Phylogenetic System and Zoogeography of the Plecoptera

▪ Abstract  Information about the phylogenetic relationships of Plecoptera is summarized. The few characters supporting monophyly of the order are outlined. Several characters of possible significance for the search for the closest relatives of the stoneflies are discussed, but the sister-group of the order remains unknown.

Plecoptera is a small neopteran order that probablyemerged in the Upper Carboniferous (Grimaldi & Engel,2005; Bethoux et al., 2011). The order is distributed acrossall continents except Antarctica and has about 4,000species in 16 families (Fochetti & Tierno-de-Figueroa,2008).
