The inflated radii of M-dwarfs in the Pleiades [PDF]
Rotation periods obtained with the Kepler satellite have been combined with precise measurements of projected rotation velocity from the WIYN 3.5-m telescope to determine the distribution of projected radii for several hundred low-mass ($0.1 \leq M/M_ ...

Abstract Ionospheric molecular ions, such as N2+ ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}^{+}$, NO+, and O2+ ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}^{+}$, have been observed in Earth's high‐altitude ionosphere and the magnetosphere by several spacecraft missions. Their presence not only indicates that they obtain sufficient energy through effective energization mechanisms, predominantly during ...

A VLBI Resolution of the Pleiades Distance Controversy [PDF]
Because of its proximity and its youth, the Pleiades open cluster of stars has been extensively studied and serves as a cornerstone for our understanding of the physical properties of young stars. This role is called into question by the "Pleiades distance controversy" wherein the cluster distance of 120.2+/-1.5 pc as measured by the optical space ...

Abstract Mangroves are critically important ecosystems that are highly vulnerable to hurricanes. This study assessed the impact of Hurricane Maria on mangrove canopy heights and vegetation at two sites in Puerto Rico—La Parguera (southwest) and the Northeast Ecological Corridor (northeast)—and examined factors influencing recovery. Using remote sensing

Remote Sensing for Monitoring Macroplastics in Rivers: A Review
Panoramic of remote sensing platforms for monitoring plastics in riverine environments. Platform elevation is directly related to image spatial resolution; see the example of a plastic bottle captured from Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs). Letters stand for drone (D) and satellite (S) platforms: (Sa) Sentinel‐2; (Sb) Sentinel‐1 SAR; (Sc) Pleiades ...

Brown Dwarfs in the Pleiades, a deep IJK survey [PDF]
An area large enough (180 sq arcmin) to put constraints on a possible low mass brown dwarf population in the Pleiades has been surveyed to very faint magnitudes in I, J and K. The completeness limit, I=21.6, corresponds to a mass of 0.01 Msun for a cluster age of 70 Myr and 0.035 Msun for 120 Myr.

Spatial and Temporal Variability of the Surface Mass Balance of Debris‐Covered Glacier Tongues
Abstract Himalayan glaciers often have a supraglacial debris layer that causes spatial heterogeneity in surface changes and mostly reduces melt. Despite this, debris‐covered glaciers lose mass at similar rates to debris‐free glaciers. Understanding related processes is crucial for assessing impacts on water resources and hazards.
