Radiometric and geometric characteristics of Pleiades images [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2014
Pleiades images are distributed with 50 cm ground sampling distance (GSD) even if the physical resolution for nadir images is just 70 cm. By theory this should influence the effective GSD determined by means of point spread function at image edges ...

A wide deep infrared look at the Pleiades with UKIDSS: new constraints on the substellar binary fraction and the low mass IMF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present the results of a deep wide-field near-infrared survey of 12 square degrees of the Pleiades conducted as part of the UKIDSS Deep Infrared Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Galactic Cluster Survey (GCS).

A census of the near-by Pisces-Eridanus stellar stream -- Commonalities with and disparities from the Pleiades [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 638, A9 (2020), 2020
Within a 400~pc sphere around the Sun, we search for members of the Pisces-Eridanus (Psc-Eri) stellar stream in the Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) data set. We compare basic astrophysical characteristics of the stream with those of the Pleiades. We used a modified convergent-point method to identify stars with 2D - velocities consistent with the space ...

Membership and Multiplicity among Very Low-Mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs in the Pleiades Cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present near-infrared photometry and optical spectroscopy of very low-mass stars and brown dwarf candidates in the Pleiades open cluster. The membership status of these objects is assessed. Eight objects out of 45 appear to be non-members.

Nebulous Star in the Pleiades [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1877
A SHORT paragraph in a recent number of NATURE (vol. xv., p. 244) on the nebulous star in the Pleiades appears to call for a few remarks. With reference to the supposed difficulty of seeing with very large instruments a faint nebulosity in close proximity to a bright star, I may say, that the words of my assistant, quoted in the paragraph referred to ...

Plot‐level satellite imagery can substitute for UAVs in assessing maize phenotypes across multistate field trials

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Maize plays a key role in agricultural profitability and food security on six continents. Successful efforts to breed higher‐yielding maize varieties depend on replicated yield trials in many environments. Capturing in‐season data can help improve and accelerate the development of regionally adapted hybrids, but collecting these data can be impractical

A Substellar Companion to the Dusty Pleiades Star HD 23514 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
With adaptive optics imaging at Keck observatory, we have discovered a substellar companion to the F6 Pleiades star HD 23514, one of the dustiest main-sequence stars known to date (L_{IR}/L_{*}~2%). This is one of the first brown dwarfs discovered as a companion to a star in the Pleiades.

Photometry and membership for low mass stars in the young open cluster NGC 2516 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present the results of a 0.86 square degree CCD photometric survey of the open cluster NGC 2516, which has an age of about 150 Myr and may have a much lower metallicity than the similarly-aged Pleiades.

Images of the Pleiades of the Turkic and Mongolic Peoples

open access: yesМонголоведение
Introduction. The Pleiades star cluster (hereinafter referred to as a constellation) was of extreme importance in the lives of the nomads of Inner and Central Asia of all the astral objects visible in the night sky.
