A census of the near-by Pisces-Eridanus stellar stream -- Commonalities with and disparities from the Pleiades [PDF]
Within a 400~pc sphere around the Sun, we search for members of the Pisces-Eridanus (Psc-Eri) stellar stream in the Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) data set. We compare basic astrophysical characteristics of the stream with those of the Pleiades.

Nebulous Star in the Pleiades [PDF]
A SHORT paragraph in a recent number of NATURE (vol. xv., p. 244) on the nebulous star in the Pleiades appears to call for a few remarks. With reference to the supposed difficulty of seeing with very large instruments a faint nebulosity in close proximity to a bright star, I may say, that the words of my assistant, quoted in the paragraph referred to ...

The Substellar Members of the Pleiades [PDF]
We have compiled the largest magnitude limited sample of candidate substellar Pleiads to date. We fit King profiles to their spatial distribution to determine the Pleiades brown dwarf core radius to be Subsequently we have used our improved spatial model to place stringent limits on the shape of the cluster mass function across and below the stellar ...

Inspired by natural light‐harvesting systems, this study computationally investigates a synthetic antenna by arranging cationic free‐base porphyrin molecules on an anionic clay surface. Using a multiscale quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approach combined with a multifidelity machine learning method, excitation energies are predicted ...

Abstract Architectural and engineering elements of the Roman civilization constitute an important cultural heritage. Nevertheless, not all ancient Roman cities and the roads connecting them have been found, mainly because classical geographical sources show a significant lack of precision.

Riding the monsoon: Geography and Iron Age trade in the Indian Ocean
Abstract This paper exploits ancient textual sources to develop a database of ancient trade in the Indian Ocean and model trade in the region during the Iron Age. Wind‐speed data are used to construct a gravity model of trade and are combined with detailed textual data from the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea to analyse historical development trends in ...

ATTITUDE ASSESSMENT USING PLEIADES-HR CAPABILITIES [PDF]
Since SPOT1, the French national space centre (CNES) has worked on improving the geometry of Earth observation spacecrafts. The accuracy of sensor calibration is one of the main key points for any Earth observation application such as orthorectification,
