Thoracoscopic pleurodesis for pneumothorax was performed on 23 patients (16 men, 7 women), including seven with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, over a 12-month period. Single-lumen intubation with spontaneous ventilation were used making intrapleural insufflation unnecessary. Postoperatively the patients required chest drainage for 1-28 (mean 3)

Comparative results of Sericin pleurodesis, as a novel pleurodesis agent
Thoracic Surgery, 2018Aim: Sericin is natural, gumlike protein synthesized from silkworms. Study aims to compare sericin pleurodesis regarding effectiveness, tolerability, side effects, cost effectiveness Method: Adult, male, 12week old Wistar albino rats (n=60); divided to five groups as sericin, talcum powder(TP), doxycycline(dox), silver nitrate(SN) and control.

Pleurodesis for malignant pleural effusions
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2000Approximately half of all patients with metastatic cancer develop a malignant pleural effusion which is likely to lead to a significant reduction in quality of life secondary to symptoms such as dyspnoea and cough. The aim of pleurodesis in these patients is to prevent re-accumulation of the effusion and thereby of symptoms, and avoid the need for ...

The Efficacy of Polidocanol in Pleurodesis in Rats
Surgery Today, 2003Pleurodesis is used to treat pleural effusions, and a number of agents with varying degrees of efficacy and systemic toxicity have been trialed. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and systemic toxicity of polidocanol in pleurodesis.Thirty albino Wistar rats were divided into three groups of ten rats each.

Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 1997
Pleurodesis is intended to prevent the accumulation of fluid or air in the pleural space by creating symphysis between the visceral and parietal pleura. The main indications for this procedure are malignant effusions and pneumothorax. A reexpandable lung and reasonably long expected survival are criteria that must be met before pleurodesis is attempted

Pleurodesis With Polidocanol in Pigs
Chest, 1994Polidocanol was instilled in five pleural cavities of three pigs. Adhesions formed in all. Adhesion distribution varied from covering a minor part to most of the lung, depending on the amount of polidocanol. One control cavity treated with sodium chloride was unaffected.
