Phylogenetic Status of Paralichthodes algoensis (Pleuronectiformes: Paralichthodidae)
Copeia, 1998The phylogenetic position and classification of the flatfish, Paralichthodes algoensis, have been subject to several changes since its description by Gilchrist (1902). Regan (1910) classified this South African species within the Samarinae, along with Brachypleura and Samaris, based on the absence of a distinct caudal peduncle, the forward extension of

Revision of the Genus Asterorhombus (Pleuronectiformes: Bothidae)
Copeia, 2005Abstract A recent definition of Asterorhombus is composed of only two characters: lack of sexual dimorphism; deep clefts in caudal bones (parhypural, hypurals, epurals). The genus currently contains seven nominal species: A. annulatus, A. bleekeri, A. osculus, A. cocosensis, A. fijiensis, A. intermedius, and A. filifer.

Sexual dimorphisms of the urogenital papilla are reported in the eastern Pacific paralichthyid flounder Citharichthys platophrys. In males, the urogenital papilla is longer than that in females, and it has several (2–7) obvious lateral projections. Urogenital papilla length is not sexually dimorphic among related flatfishes (species of Paralichthyidae ...

Diversity of the structure of lateral line scales in Pleuronectiformes
Journal of Ichthyology, 2007Scales of the lateral line (Sll) in representatives of the order Pleuronectiformes were studied, and its large morphological diversity was revealed. It was shown that Sll early in ontogenesis reach a definitive structure and have an insignificant individual variation. In some cases, features of Sll are species specific, but the main distinctions in its

Interrelationships of scophthalmid fishes (Pleuronectiformes: Scophthalmidae)
2003A cladistic analysis of the eight species included in the Scophthalmidae was performed using 25 morphological features, mostly osteological. The analysis resulted in a single cladogram (exhaustive search, 34 steps, consistency index = 0.735, retention index = 0.864). The monophyly of the Scophthalmidae is supported by 4 synapomorphies.

Taxonomic Revision of the Genus Bothus (Bothidae; Pleuronectiformes)
2016The taxonomic status of its 59 nominal species of the genus Bothus (Pleuronectiformes: Bothidae) has been revised, based on a morphological study of 320 type and non-type specimens. Of the 59 nominal species examined in the study, 18 have found to be valid and are re-described.
