Plot Size Optimization

Forest Science, 1980
Abstract The relationships between measurement time, travel time, and plot size are examined for simple random sampling and systematic sampling on a square lattice. The total time to estimate a stand variable within a desired level of accuracy is shown to be minimal if plot size is calculated from the formula P* = P(t/m)² where P ...

The size and shape of the test plots

1995
Ideal trial fields (in the open or in glasshouses) provide uniform growing conditions across their whole area. Such trial fields do not exist if their area is ‘somewhat large’. Then the trial field contains relatively better and poorer sections. These sections may change in time; their contours may depend on the crop.

A simulation study on the effects of plot size and shape on sampling plant species composition for biodiversity management

Journal of Sustainable Forestry, 2018
Sustainable management of plant diversity in a forest requires adequate information that is often derived from samples. With limited resources, the plot design has to be efficient.

Plot Size in Mushroom Cropping Experiments

Journal of Horticultural Science, 1965
The effect on crop variability of growing in different sizes of containers was tested in three experiments by using two sizes of tray. The basal areas of the trays were 1 and 6 sq. ft. and the volumes of compost in them ⅓ and 4 cu. ft. respectively. Plots comprised small trays grouped in threes, and large trays used singly.

Plot size and number of plots needed to assess spruce budworm impact

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1982
This study investigated size and number of plots needed to precisely estimate tree mortality, mean dead basal area, mean dead volume, mean live basal area, and mean live volume in stands infested with the spruce budworm, Choristoneurafumiferana (Clemens).Depending on the parameter, precision of four different plot sizes (0.02, 0.04, 0.08, 0.40 ha) was

Plot Sizes for Timber Cruising in Georgia

Journal of Forestry, 1965
Abstract Do foresters often use larger field plots than they really need for cruising timber? Tests in two important forest types indicate that they do. Relative efficiencies of BAF-10 point-samples versus five sizes of circular plots were studied in the Georgia Piedmont.

The influence of grid size on accuracy in radiotherapy dose plotting

Medical Physics, 1990
The recent article by Niemierko and Goitein [Med. Phys. 16, 239–247 (1989)] illustrates well the errors which are occurring in plotting isodose lines. We wish to augment their analysis with similar work done at Cardiff a few years ago; to indicate some practical treatment outcomes they have omitted; to propose even more stringent requirements of the ...

XRD structural studies on cobalt doped zinc oxide nanoparticles synthesized by coprecipitation method: Williamson-Hall and size-strain plot approaches

, 2020
Cobalt doped Zinc Oxide (Zn1-xCoxO) (x = 0.03) nanoparticles have been synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method at room temperature and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) study.

Selection of Sugarcane Clones in Small Plots: Effects of Plot Size and Selection Criteria

Crop Science, 2001
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) clones are frequently evaluated in one‐ or two‐row plots in the early stages of selection in sugarcane breeding programs. This study assessed the value of performance in small plots for predicting performance under near pure stands and compared different selection methods and criteria based on measurements made in small plots.
