Uniformity trial size in estimates of plot size in restrict areas

open access: yesREVISTA CIÊNCIA AGRONÔMICA, 2015
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to determine the uniformity trial size when estimating optimum plot size in order to evaluate fresh phytomass in lettuce plants and fruit weight in sweet peppers. Production data, collected in uniformity trial on lettuce in a plastic greenhouse in both summer and winter, lettuce in plastic tunnels in autumn and winter,

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Scaling properties of the relaxation time near the mean-field spinodal

open access: yes, 2009
We study the relaxation processes of the infinitely long-range interaction model (the Husimi-Temperley model) near the spinodal point. We propose a unified finite-size scaling function near the spinodal point, including the metastable region, the ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Firm Size Distribution and Returns to Scale. Non-Parametric Frontier Estimates from Italian Manufacturing [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper explores the relationship between firm size distribution and technology. We analyse firm technology across selected manufacturing industries by means of a non-parametric production analysis, the Free Disposal Hull approach (Deprins et al ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

PLOT SIZE AND MAIZE PRODUCTIVITY IN ZAMBIA: THE INVERSE RELATIONSHIP RE-EXAMINED [PDF]

open access: yes
Agricultural productivity is known to decline with farm size in many developing countries. This may be a result of market imperfections, such as missing rural labor markets. On the other hand, there may be economies of scale in farming, due, for instance,

Quintessence with Hybrid Potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
I present the numerical solution of equations of the evolution of a universe containing background fluids (radiation, dark matter and baryonic matter), plus a scalar matter field with a hybrid potential that is a combination of exponential potential and ...
