Plumb line and the shape of the earth
American Journal of Physics, 2000The equation for plumb line deviation currently presented in textbooks ignores the effect of earth’s flattening on the direction of true gravitational acceleration and is incorrect by nearly a factor of 2. The correct equation is consistent with the shape and dimensions of the earth with a very high degree of accuracy.

Application of PSD in a plumb line coordinator
SPIE Proceedings, 2002The double devices of position-sensitive detector (PSD) technique is studied in this paper. This apparatus which is used as a plumb line coordinator can be used to observe dam deformation, and so on. Two narrow gaps in this apparatus are proposed to replace the lens which are apt to become mildewed in moist circumstance.

Divergence of long plumb‐lines at the Tamarack mine
Terrestrial Magnetism and Atmospheric Electricity, 1902In September last two very long plumb‐lines were hung in No. 5 shaft of the Tamarack Mine at Calumet, Michigan. They were 4,250 ft. in length, being longer than in any previously recorded instance. They were of No. 24 piano wire and the bobs were of cast iron, weighing fifty pounds each.

Plumb line deflection near the North Pole
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1974In April 1969 the deflection of the plumb line in the vicinity of the Lomonosov ridge near the north pole was determined from a drifting ice station by measuring the displacement between two drift paths, one determined astronomically and the other determined by means of a Transit Satellite receiver.
