Plunging Ranula Localized in the Parapharyngeal Space
ORL, 1990Plunging ranulas are a mucous extravasation and usually originate from the sublingual gland. They dissect between the facial planes and muscle of the base of the tongue to the submandibular triangle. We report here a rare case of plunging ranula localized in the parapharyngeal space. The relevant anatomy is reviewed and discussed.

Ranula is a pseudocyst of the sublingual gland, often of unknown etiology. In few cases, it can extend to the neck when passing through the mylohyoid muscle. Diagnosis is not always easy as other cervical cystic lesions may have the same clinical aspect. Some ranulas recur after removal.
