Synthesis of PMMA‐PTHF‐PMMA and PMMA‐PTHF‐PST linear and star block copolymers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2004
AbstractCombination of cationic, redox free radical, and thermal free radical polymerizations was performed to obtain linear and star polytetramethylene oxide (poly‐THF)‐polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/polystyrene (PSt) multiblock copolymers. Cationic polymerization of THF was initiated by the mixture of AgSbF6 and bis(4,4′ bromo‐methyl benzoyl ...

Improved Adhesion Between PMMA and Stainless Steel Modified with PMMA Brushes

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2014
In this work, various lengths and densities of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) brushes were synthesized on stainless steel (SS) surfaces via surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization. Subsequently, the joints between the bulk PMMA and the PMMA brushed stainless steel were obtained by injection molding, and for these the degree of adhesion

Solvent-based bonding of PMMA–PMMA for microfluidic applications

Microsystem Technologies, 2018
Solvent bonding is a simple, inexpensive and quick technique used for joining microfluidic parts made of thermoplastic polymers that results in high bonding strength and good optical clarity. However, selecting the right solvent as well as the curing conditions is an important step in providing a successful bond that ensures an appropriate bonding ...

Analysis of Structural and Electronic Properties of Novel (PMMA/Al2O3, PMMA/Al2O3-Ag, PMMA/ZrO2, PMMA/ZrO2-Ag, PMMA-Ag) Nanocomposites for Low Cost Electronics and Optics Applications

Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Materials, 2019
In this paper, the effect of (Al2O3, ZrO2, Ag, Al2O3-Ag, ZrO2-Ag) nanoparticles on the optimized geometrical parameters and electronic properties of poly-methylmethacrylate has been investigated for first time. The optimization parameters included both bonds angles and bonds length.

Stereocomplex PMMA Fibers

MRS Proceedings, 2006
AbstractWe have utilized the fact that syndiotactic and isotactic Poly(methyl methacrylate) {PMMA} form a stereocomplex to spin semi-crystalline PMMA fibers. Our goal is to produce oriented semi-crystalline fibers with a high enough melting point to withstand atactic-PMMA processing conditions. We successfully developed stereocomplex PMMA fibers by wet

PMMA/PPTA Microcomposites

Macromolecules, 1997
Polymer composites of several concentrations of poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(p-phenyleneterephthalamide) microfibrils have been prepared by blending a solution of the matrix polymer and a suspension of microfibrils obtained from a solution of commercial Kevlar fiber in H2SO4. Scanning electron microscopy shows that a continuous network of fibrils

Silvered-PMMA reflectors

Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 1994
Abstract Metallized, flexible polymeric reflector materials are much lighter and potentially less expensive than the conventional glass/metal mirrors often used in solar thermal concentrators such as heliostats and parabolic dishes and troughs. Unweathered silvered-PMMA reflectors have a solar reflectance at least as high as glass reflectors, but ...

Crosslinking of PMMA Elastomer Block Copolymers Through PMMA Stereocomplexes

1992
It is known for some time that in suitable solvents, mixtures of syndiotactic and isotactic PMMA form stereocomplexes.1 The parameters that govern stereocom-plex formation have been extensively studied by Challa, 2 Spevacek3 and others and were recently reviewed by Spevacek.4 Stereocomplex formation is believed to involve the formation of a type of ...

Deep punching PMMA

Experimental Mechanics, 2000
The authors performed deep punching experiments on PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) using cylindrical-shaped punches with conical and hemispherical noses. The test samples cracked when no lateral confinement was provided. Application of proper lateral confinement suppressed the cracks. The punching force recorded from the experiments correlates very well

Cosolvents of PMMA

Die Makromolekulare Chemie, 1981
AbstractSeveral cosolvent mixtures for PMMA are reported. Their cosolvency has been confirmed by studying phase separation temperatures as a function of solvent composition. The results show that they are very powerful cosolvents. Acetonitrile forms such cosolvent mixtures with compounds containing different chemical groups (ester, ketone, alcohol ...
