Pneumatic conveying is the transportation of bulk solids in enclosed pipelines via a carrier gas, typically air. The local flow pattern in a pipeline is a function of the conditions, and slug flow can form under certain conditions. Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 1993Three medium grain varieties (‘Mars’, ‘Nato’, and ‘Saturn’) of milled rice were evaluated for damage in a pressure-type pneumatic conveying system. Operating parameters included four air-to-solid ratios and four air velocities. Mechanical damage to the kernels was assessed in terms of broken and fissured kernels.
