Is Preoperative Anemia a Prognostic Marker in Patients Who Underwent Pneumonectomy for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer?

open access: yesCerrahpaşa Medical Journal
Objective: Pneumonectomy is infrequently selected for lung resections due to the high rate of postoperative complications. Thus, identifying risk factors for complications and predicting potential prognostic factors in patients undergoing pneumonectomy ...

A Real‐World Study of Resectable NSCLC Following Neoadjuvant Immunotherapy: Should Postoperative Adjuvant Immunotherapy be Recommended?

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 16, Issue 23, December 2025.
Combined analysis of pathological response and postoperative treatment revealed that the best outcomes were observed in patients achieving pathological complete response (pCR) or major pathological response (MPR) who received adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy, whereas the poorest outcomes were associated with patients who neither ...

Sarcopenia on preoperative chest computed tomography predicts cancer‐specific and all‐cause mortality following pneumonectomy for lung cancer: A multicenter analysis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2021
Background Mortality risk prediction in patients undergoing pneumonectomy for non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains imperfect. Here, we aimed to assess whether sarcopenia on routine chest computed tomography (CT) independently predicts worse cancer ...

Lineage Tracing of Distal Lung Epithelial Progenitors in Injury‐Induced Regeneration

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal, Volume 19, Issue 12, December 2025.
Lineage tracing reveals the diverse stem‐like progenitors driving distal lung regeneration. We highlight how Clara cells, AT2 cells, bronchioalveolar stem cells, basal‐like progenitors, and other progenitors contribute to injury repair through context‐dependent plasticity.

Orosomucoid 1 Participates in Alveolar Hypercoagulation and Fibrinolytic Inhibition Involving NF‐κB Signaling Pathway in LPS‐Induced ARDS

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 21, 15 November 2025.
ORM1 promotes LPS‐induced ARDS by activating NF‐κB in alveolar epithelial II cells, upregulating TF/PAI‐1 to cause hypercoagulation and fibrinolysis inhibition, leading to lung injury. ORM1 knockdown reverses these effects, indicating therapeutic potential.

Diagnostic and Predictive Value of CD133‐Positive Circulating Tumor Cells as an Indicator of Pathological High‐Risk Factors for Stage I Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 21, November 2025.
This study explores the predictive value of combining CD133‐positive circulating tumor cells in a diagnostic model for identifying high‐risk pathological factors in stage I NSCLC. Identifying these factors preoperatively can guide treatment decisions and may improve outcomes.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in a Patient with Previous Pneumonectomy: A Case Report and Discussion of Anaesthetic Considerations

open access: yesCase Reports in Anesthesiology, 2014
Increasing numbers of patients require cholecystectomy after previous pneumonectomy, but there are little data to guide anaesthetic management. A laparoscopic approach is associated with less postoperative respiratory compromise than open cholecystectomy

Bronchial Artery–Pulmonary Artery Fistula With Dual Arterial Feeders Treated Successfully With Staged Embolisation Procedures—A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2025.
Bronchial artery‐pulmonary artery fistula (BPAF) with dual arterial feeders is a rare vascular anomaly with the potential risk of catastrophic rupture. Our case report demonstrated the role of endovascular embolisation in preventing massive life‐threatening haemorrhage.

Pathologic Complete Response Predicts Long‐Term Survival Following Neoadjuvant Induction Chemotherapy and Chemo‐Radiotherapy in Stage‐III Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 16, Issue 22, November 2025.
Pathologic complete response predicts long‐term survival following neoadjuvant induction chemotherapy and chemo‐radiation in stage‐III Non‐small cell lung cancer. Through Induction‐chemotherapy and Chemoradiation to Surgery and Beyond: Pathologic Complete Response and Overall Survival in stage III NSCLC—A Long‐term observational study.

Indications, contributing factors, and short-term outcomes of pneumonectomy: an 8-year retrospective study in a resource-limited setting

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background Pneumonectomy, the surgical removal of an entire lung, was first performed in 1933 by Evarts A. Graham for lung carcinoma. Today, pneumonectomy is primarily indicated for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) worldwide.
