Colloidal Phase Separation of Concentrated PNIPAm Solutions

Langmuir, 2007
In the concentration range of 1-6 wt %, solutions of a thermosensitive polymer (poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAm), Mw = 1.4 x 10(5) g.mol(-1)) are shown to phase separate in the form of dense stable colloids of nearly pure polymer. Diffuse wave spectroscopy and small-angle neutron scattering both provide consistent measurements of the colloidal size ...

Preparation of thermosensitive PNIPAM microcontainers and a versatile method to fabricate PNIPAM shell on particles with silica surface

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2012
Thermosensitive PNIPAM microcontainers were prepared by using silica particles as template. Silica particles were prepared by the Stober method and surface modified with linear P(NIPAM-co-MPS) chains. PNIPAM shell was then fabricated on the P(NIPAM-co-MPS)-modified silica particles through precipitation polymerization of NIPAM and MBA.

Mechanical properties of PNIPAM based hydrogels: A review

Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2017
Materials which adjust their properties in response to environmental factors such as temperature, pH and ionic strength are rapidly evolving and known as smart materials. Hydrogels formed by smart polymers have various applications. Among the smart polymers, thermoresponsive polymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM) is very important because of its ...

PNIPAM microgels in external fields

2018

PNIPAm-PEO-PPO-PEO-PNIPAm Pentablock Terpolymer: Synthesis and Chain Behavior in Aqueous Solution

Macromolecules, 2010
The double thermosensitive and narrow dispersed PNIPAm110-PEO100-PPO65-PEO100-PNIPAm110 pentablock terpolymer was synthesized by the typical atomic transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm) as the monomer and modified poly(ethylene oxide)100−poly(propylene oxide)65−poly(ethylene oxide)100 (PEO100-PPO65-PEO100 ...

PNIPAm-based microgels with a UCST response

Polymer, 2017
Abstract Thermoresponsive microgels with an upper critical solution temperature (UCST) response (i.e., showing volume expansion at higher temperature) are highly desirable for a variety of applications, but quite uncommon, in particular if they are to work in physiological conditions.
