Effect of blood meals and mating on biodemographic characteristics of Aedes albopictus

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 446-459, September 2026.
Lifespan did not differ between virgin and mated males and females. The number of blood meals (one and two) significantly reduced adult lifespan compared with those with no blood meal. The effect of the second blood meal doubled females' egg production and their reproductive output.

Impact of empiric potassium supplementation on mortality, sudden cardiac arrest and stroke in furosemide initiators

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 8, Page 2924-2936, August 2026.
Aim A prior non‐randomized study suggests that potassium supplementation may improve survival among furosemide initiators, and a randomized trial suggests that salt substitutes containing potassium might lower stroke risk. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using health‐care data to confirm or refute these associations among new users of ...

Concept for an integrated PNT-unit for maritime applications [PDF]

open access: yes2010 5th ESA Workshop on Satellite Navigation Technologies and European Workshop on GNSS Signals and Signal Processing (NAVITEC), 2010
The provision of robust position, navigation and timing (PNT) information is a fundamental element of the e-Navigation initiative proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In this context the single Electronic Position Fixing System (EPFS), which currently conforms to the minimum carriage requirement, should be replaced by an ...

Comparative Neuroanatomy of Hydrothermal Vent Shrimps: Ecological Differentiation Among Four Alvinocaridid Species

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 8, August 2026.
Hydrothermal vent shrimps share a conserved brain architecture with enlarged mushroom bodies and terminal medullae, shaped by similar environmental pressures. Despite this similarity, some anatomical features near the brain vary between species, suggesting that some ecological factors, such as microhabitat and trophic strategies, also influence nervous

AF‐CALVADOS: AlphaFold‐guided simulations of multi‐domain proteins at the proteome level

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Deep‐learning methods have transformed our ability to predict the three‐dimensional structures of folded proteins from sequence, and coarse‐grained simulations have made it possible to study intrinsically disordered proteins at the proteome scale. More than half of human proteins, however, contain mixtures of disordered regions and one or more

Manganese Oxide Catalysts for Lithium–Oxygen Batteries: Structures, Mechanisms, and Reaction Pathway Engineering

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 44, 7 August 2026.
How do the morphologies, crystal structures, and electronic properties of manganese oxides influence oxygen reaction pathways in lithium–oxygen batteries (LOBs)? This review systematically summarizes structure‐dependent catalytic mechanisms and recent engineering strategies, highlighting how defect engineering, compositional modulation, and reaction ...
