The modern pollen-vegetation relationship of a tropical forest-savannah mosaic landscape, Ghana, West Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Transitions between forest and savannah vegetation types in fossil pollen records are often poorly understood due to over-production by taxa such as Poaceae and a lack of modern pollen-vegetation studies.

Intraspecific variation in stomatal architecture, gas exchange, and drought response of a dominant prairie grass sourced from broad climatic gradients

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Understanding how plant populations adapt to water limitation through stomatal traits is key to predicting drought responses. The dominant C4 grass Andropogon gerardi, distributed across sharp climate gradients in North America, offers an excellent focal species to study stomatal architecture (size and density).

THE INTERACTION BETWEEN WEED AND ARTHROPODS OF AGROFORESTRY ECOSYSTEMS IN CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems
Background. The province of Central Java, Indonesia, hosts various well-developed agroforestry systems. Objective. To explore the interaction of weed diversity on the diversity of soil arthropods, specifically in four stations based on distinct ...

Tocotrienols: A Review From Source to Therapeutic Applications

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Tocotrienols demonstrate superior antioxidant, neuroprotective, and anti‐inflammatory properties compared to conventional vitamin E forms, with promising therapeutic applications across multiple disorders when delivered through optimized systems that enhance their inherently limited bioavailability.

Distribution and diversity of exotic plant species in montane to alpine areas of Kosciuszko National Park [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Diversity and distribution of exotic plant taxa in Kosciuszko National Park in south-eastern Australia were reviewed based on 1103 records of exotics from 18 vegetation surveys conducted between 1986 and 2004.

Shelf‐Life Enhancement of Sugarcane Juice With Herbal Extracts: Extracted Through Novel Microwave‐Assisted Drying Extraction Technique

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Antioxidants in foods delay or prevent the oxidation of the food. Previously, synthetic antioxidants were commonly used in food formulations, but, due to safety concerns, interest in natural antioxidants has intensified. A novel microwave‐assisted drying extraction process was adopted to dry mint and coriander leaves.

A molecular phylogenetic study of Deschampsia (Poaceae: Aveneae) inferred from nuclear ITS and plastid trnL sequence data: support for the recognition of Avenella and Vahlodea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The circumscription and phylogeny of Deschampsia were studied for the first time by parsimony analysis of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid trnL intron sequences.

The local paleoenvironment of Kalavan‐2 based on small‐vertebrate remains and its implications for human‐environment‐dynamics between 60 and 35 ka in the Armenian Highlands

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Kalavan‐2, a high‐altitude (∼1640 m a.s.l.) open‐air site in Armenia, preserves stratified Middle Paleolithic occupations with a rich small‐vertebrate record. Luminescence dating has placed site formation between ~60 and 45 ka, but without independent chronological control of the microvertebrate accumulation.

Phylogenetics of Paniceae (Poaceae) [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 2001
Paniceae demonstrate unique variability of photosynthetic physiology and anatomy, including both non‐Kranz and Kranz species and all subtypes of the latter. This variability suggests hypotheses of independent origin or reversals (e.g., from C4 to C3). These hypotheses can be tested by phylogenetic analysis of independent molecular characters.
