Evolutionary History of Poales
Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics, 2005▪ Abstract The predominantly wind-pollinated order Poales includes about one third of all monocot (Angiosperm) species, with c. 20,000 species dominating modern savanna and steppe vegetation. Recent improvements in understanding relationships within the order allow phylogenetic optimizations of habitat preferences and adaptive character states ...

Floral Anatomy of Paepalanthoideae (Eriocaulaceae, Poales) and their Nectariferous Structures [PDF]
Eriocaulaceae (Poales) is currently divided in two subfamilies: Eriocauloideae, which comprises two genera and Paepalanthoideae, with nine genera. The floral anatomy of Actinocephalus polyanthus, Leiothrix fluitans, Paepalanthus chlorocephalus, P. flaccidus and Rondonanthus roraimae was studied here. The flowers of these species of Paepalanthoideae are

Pollination biology of Syngonanthus elegans (Eriocaulaceae - Poales)
Australian Journal of Botany, 2009Studies on the pollination biology of Eriocaulaceae are scarce although particularly interesting because of its inclusion in the Poales, a predominantly wind-pollinated order. The pollination biology of Syngonanthus elegans (Bong.) Ruhland was studied during two annual flowering periods to test the hypothesis that insect pollination was its primary ...

A revised evolutionary history of Poales: origins and diversification
Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2013Poales represents more than one third of all monocotyledons (c. 20000 species in 16 families) and constitutes a microcosm of the angiosperms. The extreme variation in species richness among the families of Poales is still not understood: Poaceae includes ~10000 species whereas six families have fewer than ten species.

Comparative embryology and taxonomic considerations in Eriocaulaceae (Poales)
Feddes Repertorium, 2010AbstractThe genus concept within Eriocaulaceae is widely discussed because it is mainly based on a small number of floral characteristics of unknown functional and evolutionary significance. The aim of the present work is to comparatively study the embryology of representatives of most genera of Eriocaulaceae to identify relevant features that might ...
