Ovicidal activity of entomopathogenic hyphomycetes to the legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata and the pod sucking bug, Clavigralla tomentosicollis

Crop Protection, 2002
Abstract The ovicidal activity of eight isolates of entomopathogenic hyphomycetes was evaluated in the laboratory against Maruca vitrata and Clavigralla tomentosicollis . At a concentration of 1×10 8  conidia ml −1 , four isolates ( Beauveria bassiana CPD 3 and 10, and Metarhizium anisopliae CPD 5 and 12) were found to be highly pathogenic to ...

Pod hairs as a factor in Vigna vexillata resistance to the pod‐sucking bug, Clavigralla tomentosicollis

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1988
AbstractTwo varieties of Vigna vexillata Benth proved more highly resistant, both under field (free‐choice) and screen‐house (no‐choice) conditions, to infestation and damage by the pod‐sucking bug Clavigralla tomentosicollis (Stål.) (Hemiptera: Coreidae) than cowpea (Vigna unguiculata Walp.) varieties. Trichomes on the pod of V.

Resistance mechanism to the pod-sucking bug Clavigralla tomentosicollis (Hemiptera: Coreidae) in the cowpea IT86D-716 variety

International Journal of Tropical Insect Science, 2010
Resistance mechanisms to the pod-sucking bug (PSB) Clavigralla tomentosicollis Stal, in cowpea genotype IT86D-716, were studied in field and laboratory. Non-preference was evaluated on three cowpea varieties (IT86D-716, Moussa local and KVx396-4-5-2D) through measuring differences in population parameters and extent of damage under field and laboratory

Histological studies of damage by pod-sucking bugs (Heteroptera: Coreoidea) associated with cowpea Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata in Nigeria

Bulletin of Entomological Research, 2006
AbstractHistological studies were conducted on cowpea pods fed upon by the coreoid pod-sucking bugs, Anoplocnemis curvipes (Fabricius), Clavigralla tomentosicollis Stå;l, C. shadabi Dolling, Riptortus dentipes (Fabricius) and Mirperus jaculus (Thunberg). Various degrees of tissue and cellular disruption were apparent, especially in the brachysclereids.

Predation and parasitism on eggs of two pod‐sucking bugs,Nezara viridulaandPiezodorus hybneriin soybean

International Journal of Pest Management, 1995
Abstract Cohorts of newly laid egg masses of two pod‐sucking bugs, Nezara viridula and Piezodorus hybneri (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), were exposed to naturally occurring predators and parasitoids on soybean in unsprayed fields at four sites in Northern Sumatra.

Salivary glands and their digestive enzymes in pod-sucking bugs (Hemiptera: Coreoidea) associated with cowpea Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata in Nigeria

International Journal of Tropical Insect Science, 2007
The salivary glands of the cowpea pod-sucking bugs Anoplocnemis curvipes (Fabricius), Clavigralla tomentosicollis Stal, Clavigralla shadabi Dolling, Riptortus dentipes (Fabricius) and Mirperus jaculus (Thunberg) are described and illustrated. Extracts of the glands were assayed for the presence of proteinases, a-amylase, b-amylase and amyloglucosidase.

Inheritance of resistance in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) to the pod‐sucking bug Clavigralla tomentosicollis (Hemiptera: Coreidae)

Tropical Science, 2007
AbstractInheritance of resistance in cowpea to Clavigralla tomentosicollis Stål was studied on F1, F2 and F3 generations produced from crosses made between Ife Brown, a susceptible cultivar (PS), and TVu 3354, a resistant variety (PR), on the pods of which freshly emerged nymphs of C. tomentosicollis were caged.

Nigerian Journal of Entomology, 2009
An experiment was carried out at the University of Maiduguri Teaching and Research Farm to assess damage caused by pod sucking bugs [Anoplocnemis curvipes (Fab.), Cluvigralla shadabi Doll., C. tomentosicollis Stall, Riptortus dentipes (Fab.), Mirperusjaculus (Thun.), and Nezara viridula L.] on cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] between Jul. and Nov.
