ABSTRACT Monitoring changes to animals' physiological states in managed settings is critical in modern animal welfare assessment. Under human care, marine mammals can be conditioned for voluntary biological sample collection, reducing effects of handling stress on physiological state, thus better reflecting normal physiology.
