Genesis of Podiform Chromite Deposits——Evidence from the Luobosa Chromite Deposits, Tibet

Acta Geologica Sinica-English, 1987
Abstract Taking for example the Luobosa chromite deposit in Tibet combined with other deposits of the same type in the world, the paper discusses the genetic mechanism of podiform chromite deposits. The study indicates that chromite and dunite‐harzburgite are both the products of different degrees of partial melting of the same primary pyrolite (spinel

Trace Elements in Chromite as Indicators of the Origin of the Giant Podiform Chromite Deposit at Kempirsai, Kazakhstan

Economic Geology, 2022
Abstract This study presents a complete trace element data set of chromite from the world’s largest podiform chromite deposit at Kempirsai, Kazakhstan, together with platinum group element (PGE) and Re-Os isotope compositions, to explore the potential of trace elements in the study of podiform chromite deposits.

Integrated Geophysical Surveys for Searching of Podiform Chromite in Albania

4th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society, 1995
The purpose of this paper is to describe the application of geophysical methods to the search for chromite in Albania. Albania is well known for its chromite resources and ranks third amongst world producers of high-quality chromite. The ultramafic massif of Bulqiza, is the most important chromite bearing one.

Origin of podiform chromite deposits by magma mingling

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1998
Abstract I have oversaturated the immiscible system SiO2 Al2O3 FeO K2O with FeCr2O4 to study the fractionation of chromite between conjugate siliceous and fayalitic melts. Although both melts are oversaturated with chromite, chromite only nucleates in the fayalite-rich melt where the crystal/melt interfacial energy (γSL) is lowest. In less than three

A hypothesis of origin for podiform chromite deposits

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1975
Podiform chromite deposits are lenticular, chromite-rich autoliths in deformed dun-ites and harzburgites of ophiolite complexes. The ophiolite association is assumed to be created along accreting plate boundaries in the oceanic lithosphere. It is suggested that podiform chromite deposits form as magmatic cumulates in elongate magma pockets along the ...

Primitive basaltic melts included in podiform chromites from the Oman Ophiolite

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1997
Abstract In an attempt to characterize the composition of the parental melts of ophiolitic chromitites and their tectonic setting, we have undertaken a study of polymineralic solid inclusions trapped in chromites from the Oman Ophiolite (Sumail nappe).

Characteristics and implications of podiform-chromite hosted silicate inclusions in the Zedang ophiolite, Southern Tibet

Lithos, 2021
Abstract The Zedang ophiolite, containing pods of massive chromitite, crops out in the eastern segment of the Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone, Southern Tibet. Chromite grains in the Zedang chromitite bodies have high Cr# [Cr/(Cr + Al)] (0.73–0.82) and Mg# [Mg/(Mg + Fe)] (0.73–0.79), and low TiO2 content (0.13–0.25 wt%); they contain diopside (Di ...

Conditional estimates of the number of podiform chromite deposits

Nonrenewable Resources, 1994
A desirable guide for estimating the number of undiscovered mineral deposits is the number of known deposits per unit area from another well-explored permissive terrain. An analysis of the distribution of 805 podiform chromite deposits among ultramafic rocks in 12 subareas of Oregon and 27 counties of California is used to examine and extend this guide.
