Chemistry of the podocarpaceae—XI
Tetrahedron, 1966Abstract Totarol, podototarin, podocarpic acid, β-sitosterol, and campesterol have been isolated from, or identified as constituents of, the heartwoods of Podocarpus nivalis and P. acutifolius. The former species also contains methyl podocarpate, the n-alkanes with chain length C13, C14, and C21C31 inclusive, and a new bisditerpenoid which has been ...

Anthocyanins of the podocarpaceae
Phytochemistry, 1972Abstract In the Podocarpaceae anthocyanins occur in some vegetative organs, and in seed-bearing structures where they have a comparable role to angiosperm fruit pigments. Pelargonidin and peonidin are recorded for the first time from gymosperms and several species contain pigments with an unusual substituent that confers highly characteristic ...

Chemistry of the podocarpaceae
Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, 1986Abstract A pentacarbonylcarbene chromium complex of the diterpenoid methyl O-methylpodocarpate has been prepared and its reactions with some alkynes have been studied with the aim fo synthesising ring-C aromatic steroids. The use of diphenylacetylene resulted in cyclisation to give steroidal derivatives in moderate yield.

Chemistry of the podocarpaceae—VIII
Tetrahedron, 1963Abstract Macrophyllic acid from the heartwood of Podocarpus macrophyllus has been shown to be the bisditerpenoid dicarboxylic acid (I, R H) related to podototarin, and its di-O-methyl dimethyl ester synthesized from 16-hydroxytotarol. Podototarin (IV, R CH3) has been prepared by a one-step enzymatic coupling of (+)-totarol and the coupling ...

Chemistry of the podocarpaceae—XVI
Tetrahedron, 1968Abstract Treatment of 6α-bromo-7-oxototaryl acetate (II, R = OAc) with NaHCo 3 /DMSO gives 6α-bromo-7-oxototarol (II, R = OH, 5%), Δ 5 -dehydro-7-oxototaryl acetate (III, R = OAc, 45%), Δ 5 - dehydro-7-oxototarol (III, R = OH, 15%), and by fission of the dA/B ring junction, 7-oxo-5,10-secototara- 5,8,10(20),11,13-penataen-13-ol (IV, R = H, 5%).

Chemistry of the podocarpaceae—III
Tetrahedron, 1959Abstract A new lignan for which the name seco-isolariciresinol is proposed, has been isolated from the heartwood of Podocarpus spicatus. The structure has been shown to be 2:3-bis(4′-hydroxy-3′- methoxybenzyl)-butan-1:4-diol (II, R = H), and confirmed by an absolute synthesis from (−)-matairesinol (I, R = H).
