The average soil temperature was significantly lower in plots covered with hay. Hay mulching, however, did not increase significantly the total number of soil micro-arthropods collected using a soil pin trap and a soil sampler.

Evidence for strong environmental control on bacterial microbiomes of Antarctic springtails
Collembola are a key component of the soil biota globally, playing an important role in community and ecosystem dynamics. Equally significant are their associated microbiomes, that can contribute to key metabolic functions.

Community Ecology of Soil Fauna Under Periodically Flooded Forest and Anthropic Fields
The study evaluated the ecology of soil invertebrate faunal communities in periodically flooded forest (CF) fragments and anthropic fields (AF) in the Atlantic Forest. The sampling occurred in the rainy and dry seasons using pitfall traps.

An annotated checklist of springtails (Hexapoda, Collembola) from Vojvodina province, Republic of Serbia [PDF]
Based on all collected literature dealing with the fauna of springtails in Vojvodina Province (Republic of Serbia), a list of species was created and taxonomically revised according to the latest system of Collembola taxonomy. In total, the check list of

Soil invertebrate fauna plays a major role in several environmental processes, and its absence can negatively impact ecosystem health. This study aimed to assess the recovery of epigeal and edaphic invertebrate faunal communities following an ...

Indirect short- and long-term effects of aboveground invertebrate and vertebrate herbivores on soil microarthropod communities. [PDF]
Recognition is growing that besides ungulates, small vertebrate and invertebrate herbivores are important drivers of grassland functioning. Even though soil microarthropods play key roles in several soil processes, effects of herbivores-especially those ...

A checklist of Collembola of Tehran, with some new records from Iran [PDF]
The present faunal study of springtails (Collembola) was conducted -in city of Tehran during 2013-2014. Samples of soil and leaf litters from parks, forests, gardens and green landscapes were collected using Berlese funnels.

Agraphorura calvoi n. sp. from Venezuelan caves (Collembola: Onychiuridae). [PDF]
A new species of Agraphorura (Collembola: Poduromorpha: Onychiuridae) from caves in the Nort-West of Venezuela is described. A.calvoi n. sp. can be distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: antennal organ III with four ...

A genome analysis revealed the presence of many bacterial‐type terpene synthases in springtails. Four enzymes from Sinella curviseta were functionally characterised, resulting in the isolation of several compounds including sinellene ether, the first diterpene ether identified from a terpene synthase that represents a novel skeleton.

We show that impacts of agriculture on arthropod biodiversity are notably less negative in Europe than in other regions, which we find is driven by a degraded baseline, a selection bias of reference sites, and novel species compositions in agriculture that favour widespread habitat generalists and non‐native species.
