Sex-biased movement in the guppy ( Poecilia reticulata )

Oecologia, 2003
The movement strategies of birds and mammals are often closely linked to their mating system, but few studies have examined the relationship between mating systems and movement in fishes. We examined the movement patterns of the guppy ( Poecilia reticulata) in the Arima river of Trinidad and predicted that sexual asymmetry in reproductive investment ...

The Cumulation of Methylmercury in Fish (Poecilia reticulata)

International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 1980
Methylmercury labelled with mercury-203 was used for the investigation of the uptake and the release of methylmercury in fish. It has been found that methylmercury compounds adsorbed on fish food remain completely in fish and that they are released with the biological half-time of 110 +/- 20 days.

Toxicokinetics of aromatic amines in guppy, Poecilia reticulata

Science of The Total Environment, 1991
In this study the elimination kinetics of several chlorinated anilines and a tetrachlorobenzene in guppy, Poecilia reticulata, have been determined. The elimination of all the chlorinated anilines in fish showed a bi-phasic pattern, whereas the elimination characteristics of the tetrachlorobenzene are in agreement with a one-compartment model ...

Biotransformation of monochloroanilines in guppy,Poecilia reticulata

Xenobiotica, 1994
1. Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) were exposed for 96 h to 4-chloroaniline (4CA), 3-chloroaniline (3CA) and 2-chloroaniline (2CA) in a static exposure system. 4-Chloroacetanilide (N4CA), 3-chloroacetanilide (N3CA), and 2-chloroacetanilide (N2CA) were identified in test water as the respective biotransformation products. 2.

Exploring the solitaire illusion in guppies (Poecilia reticulata).

Journal of Comparative Psychology, 2018
The solitaire illusion is a numerosity illusion that occurs when the spatial arrangement of items influences quantity estimation. To date, this illusion has been reported in monkeys, although it seems to be weaker compared with its prevalence in humans, and no study has investigated whether nonprimate species perceive it.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the guppy ( Poecilia reticulata)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
The guppy (Poecilia reticulata), a member of the Poeciliidae family, is one of the most popular aquarium fish. Here, we reported the complete mitochondrial genome of P. reticulata. The genome is 16,570 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and 2 ribosomal RNA genes.

Regression comparisons of tetrahymena pyriformis and poecilia reticulata toxicity

Chemosphere, 2002
The toxicity data of chemicals common to both the Poecilia reticulata mortality assay and the Tetrahymena pyriformis growth impairment assay were evaluated. Two chemicals were not toxic at saturation in the T. pyriformis assay. In addition, due to abiotic transformation, a third chemical was removed from further consideration.

Risk Sensitive Courtship in the Guppy (Poecilia Reticulata)

Behaviour, 1990
AbstractThis study investigated population differences in the courtship behaviour of male guppies, Poecilia reticulata, in the presence and absence of predators. Two Trinidad populations were compared: the Lower Aripo where guppies occur sympatrically with a range of piscivores and the Upper Aripo where levels of fish predation are low.
