In northeast Brazil, the cactus Opuntia ficus-indica is a key species for feeding livestock. However, productivity has been reduced by the cochineal scale Dactylopius opuntiae. Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC) strains obtained from D. opuntiae show potential as biological control agents.
