Congenital malformations and other reproductive losses in goats due to poisoning by Poincianella pyramidalis (Tul.) L.P. Queiroz (=Caesalpinia pyramidalis Tul.)

Toxicon, 2016
In the semiarid region of Brazil, in areas with vegetation composed mainly of Poincianella pyramidalis, several cases of congenital malformation and reproductive losses were observed in goats and sheep from 2012 to 2014. To determine the teratogenic effect of P. pyramidalis, two groups of eight goats each were used. Goats from Group 1 received fresh P.

Effect of elicitors in Poincianella pyramidalis callus culture in the biflavonoid biosynthesis

Industrial Crops and Products, 2018
Abstract Poincianella pyramidalis is an endemic Brazilian species that grows in semi-arid region (Caatinga) and employed by the local population as folk medicine. This species is characterized by the presence of bioactive flavonoids and biflavonoids, among them amentoflavone and agathisflavone.

Purification and characterization of a Kunitz inhibitor from Poincianella pyramidalis with insecticide activity against the Mediterranean flour moth

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 2015
This paper describes the characterization of a trypsin inhibitor from Poincianella pyramidalis seeds (PpyTI). The partial sequencing of PpyTI revealed homology to Kunitz inhibitors, clustered as a member of Family I03 in MEROPS database. PpyTI has a single polypeptide chain of 19,042 Da and presents stability at high temperatures (up to 70 °C) and a ...

Reproductive losses caused by the ingestion of Poincianella pyramidalis in sheep

Toxicon, 2017
Malformations have been observed in sheep and goats in the Brazilian semiarid region in areas where Poincianella pyramidalis is dominant. The objective of this trial was to determine whether Poincianella pyramidalis causes reproductive changes in pregnant sheep. Sixteen non-pregnant sheep were mated with two rams. After confirmation of the pregnancy by

Clove Extract (Syzygium aromaticum) in Germination and Sanity of Catingueira Seeds (Poincianella pyramidalis (Tul.) L.P. Queiroz)

Journal of Experimental Agriculture International, 2020
This research aimed to evaluate the effects of Clove extract (Syzygium aromaticum) on germination and sanity of Catingueira seeds (Poincianella pyramidalis). Five treatments with Clove extract of India were applied at the following concentrations T1 (Control) = 40 mL of sterile H2O, T2= 10 mL extract + 30 mL of sterile H2O, T3= 20 mL extract + 20 mL of

Phenotypic plasticity and ecophysiological strategies in a tropical dry forest chronosequence: A study case with Poincianella pyramidalis

Forest Ecology and Management, 2015
Abstract The plasticity of functional attributes is an important strategy for the acclimation and establishment of plants in areas that undergo natural regeneration. The irregular rainfall of the Brazilian tropical dry forest is an important environmental filter for the determination of the set of species that can successfully establish in different ...
