Quality in point-of-care testing

Expert Review of Molecular Diagnostics, 2003
Point-of-care testing (POCT) is an increasingly popular means of providing laboratory testing at or near to the site of patient care. POCT provides rapid results and has the potential to improve patient outcome from earlier treatment. However, a faster result is not necessarily an equivalent result to traditional, core laboratory testing.

Point-of-Care Testing Informatics

Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 2009
Managing patient test data and documenting regulatory compliance for tests performed at the point of care have traditionally been significant problems. In many situations, manual record-keeping has proven entirely inadequate for maintaining the integrity of the patient medical record or for providing an audit trail for quality assurance activities ...

Osteoporosis: Point-of-Care Testing

Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 2004
OBJECTIVE To review the literature concerning the utility of point-of-care (POC) testing devices for the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis. DATA SOURCES Articles were identified from a MEDLINE search (1993–June 2003). Additional references were obtained from cross-referencing the bibliographies of selected articles.

Coagulation Point-of-Care Testing

Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 2001
With PT point-of-care devices, further study is needed to fully evaluate the safety and efficacy regarding home self-monitoring of oral anticoagulant therapy. Point-of-care PTT testing is also undergoing evaluation. In contrast, the ACT is commonly in use, despite its limitations, at least partly because of the lack of a readily available, inexpensive ...

Point-of-Care Testing in Coagulation

Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 2009
Point-of-care (POC) assays are available for a variety of coagulation tests. These assays are generally simple to perform and have a more rapid turnaround time than their central-laboratory counterparts. This article discusses the current status of coagulation POC methodologies, focusing on the potential clinical uses and the limitations of platelet ...

Point-of-Care-Testing - Point-of-Care-Testing und Hämotherapiealgorithmen

AINS - Anästhesiologie · Intensivmedizin · Notfallmedizin · Schmerztherapie, 2013
In patients suffering from acute haemorrhages, a prompt, targeted and restrained coagulation management is required. This should be based on a contemporary and sophisticated analysis of the coagulation system. Standard parameters (e.g. prothrombin time, international normalized ratio, plasma levels of fibrinogen, thrombocyte count etc.) seem not to be ...

Point-of-Care Testing at the Millennium

Critical Care Nursing Quarterly, 2001
Point-of-care testing (POCT) is a major force in the future evolution of hospital care, with prospects for even greater expansion of accessibility, speed, and also, hopefully, accuracy of results. New developments in POCT technology will predictably occur in three areas: connectivity, test menu expansion, and noninvasiveness.
