Two Points of the Boundary of Toric Geometry [PDF]
This note presents two observations which have in common that they lie at the boundary of toric geometry. The first one because it concerns the deformation of affine toric varieties into non toric germs in order to understand how to avoid some ramification problems arising in the study of local uniformization in positive characteristic, and the second ...

On the geometry of the sequence of infinitely near points
Let \(X\) be a smooth variety over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic zero, \(P_ 0\in X\) a closed point and \(E_ 1\) the exceptional divisor of the blowing-up of \(X\) with center \(P_ 0\). A closed point \(P_ 1\in E_ 1\) is said to be an infinitely near point (shortly i.n.p.) of \(P_ 0\). A sequence of i.n.p.

The unrolling of the peltate leaves in Syngonium podophyllum is analyzed and quantified (left‐hand side to center). These measurements serve to verify a mathematical model for leaf unrolling based on the model used in Schmidt (2007). An additional formula for obtaining a layer mismatch from a prescribed radius is derived.

Cartan geometry of spacetimes with a nonconstant cosmological function $\Lambda$
We present the geometry of spacetimes that are tangentially approximated by de Sitter spaces whose cosmological constants vary over spacetime. Cartan geometry provides one with the tools to describe manifolds that reduce to a homogeneous Klein space at ...

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially

Effects of Temporal Sampling Interval on the Moon-Based Earth Observation Geometry
The effects of temporal sampling interval on the moon-based earth observation geometry are analyzed in this study based on three observation angles, namely viewing zenith angle, solar zenith angle, and relative azimuth angle. According to the definitions

Prediction of performance of centrifugal pumps during starts under pressure [PDF]
Method which calculates start-up characteristics of centrifugal pumps reveals a capacity to predict pressure drop characteristics of pumps with vaned diffusers. Calculations are based on pump geometry, design-point flow, speed, and pressure rise, and the

In this study, exciting new bi‐/multi‐linear elastic behavior of soft elastic composites that accompany the activation of wrinkling in the embedded interfacial layers is analyzed. The new features and performance of these composite materials, including dramatic enhancements in energy storage, can be tailored by the concentration of interfacial layers ...

The sphere and the cut locus at a tangency point in two-dimensional almost-Riemannian geometry
We study the tangential case in 2-dimensional almost-Riemannian geometry. We analyse the connection with the Martinet case in sub-Riemannian geometry. We compute estimations of the exponential map which allow us to describe the conjugate locus and the ...
