Investigation of Point Load Index Using Novel Discrete Based Model
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016In this study, a micro-mechanical model is developed to study the correlation of the point load index in rocks with uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) tests. The model is represented by an array of bonded particles simulated by a novel discrete based model, which was introduced by the authors previously.

Point-load strength: An index for classification of rock material
Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1991Point-load strength (Is) as a measure for the determination of rock strength and for estimating uniaxial (unconfined) compressive strength (UCS) are described and both put together and used for rock strength classification of brittle and hard rocks. The estimated point-load strength values of specimens of varying sizes and also the values corrected to ...

Correlation between point load index and compressive strength for quartzite rocks
Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, 1993The relationship of the point load test with uniaxial compressive strength was examined using quartzite rocks to substantiate the existing correlations.

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2020
The point load strength index is a widely used index in rock engineering, and cylindrical core and irregular shaped specimens are used in its determination. But, in mine sites, the borehole cores are cut axially into two equal parts to obtain half-cut cores and one part of these half cores is sent to laboratory for geochemical analyses.

CATALASE ACTIVITY AS AN INDEX OF MICROBIAL LOAD AND END‐POINT COOKING TEMPERATURE OF FISH
Journal of Rapid Methods & Automation in Microbiology, 1998AbstractPsychrotrophs that are responsible for spoilage of many aerobically cold‐stored foods are strongly catalase positive. This study was conducted to ascertain the feasibility of using the Pasteur pipette catalase test developed by Fung (1985) to estimate the microbial population in raw fish during aerobic cold storage and to determine the end ...

The Use of the Point Load Index in Weak Carbonate Rocks
1985There has been increasing use of the point load index as a measure of rock strength since its introduction in 1972. The test results have been correlated to in the uniaxial compressive strength σf of the rock. The correlations between the rates of point load index Is and the uniaxial strength σf for conventional strong rocks are σf/Is = 16 to 24.

Correlations of Bond and Breakage Parameters of Some Ores with the Corresponding Point Load Index
Particle & Particle Systems Characterization, 2012AbstractThis paper presents significant correlations of the Bond parameter (work index, Wi and grindability, G) and the breakage parameters (specific rate of breakage, Si and the fineness value, γ) with the point load index (Is(50)). The experimental results obtained from calcite, barite, colemanite and bauxite samples have demonstrated that the Bond ...
