The Point Load Test for the Tensile Strength of Rock
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1980Abstract The theoretical background is presented for the point load test for determining the tensile strength of rock materials. Theoretical predictions of the dependence of fracture force on sample shape (in this case, spheres and cylinders) are shown to agree quite well with experimental data for Plexiglas® and rock materials.
