Experimental investigation of rock strength using indentation test and point load test

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2021
Abstract Various methods have been proposed to indirectly assess the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of intact rock when drilled cores are not available. Indentation test (IT) and point load test (PLT) are the two widely used methods in the field to assess the rock strength by penetrating the irregular blocky fragments.

The Point Load Test

Geological Society, London, Engineering Geology Special Publications, 1986
Abstract In the twelve years since the paint load test was introduced, much experience has been gained in its use. This paper reviews published papers reporting constructive criticism of test procedures and case histories.

The point-load test in geotechnical practice

Engineering Geology, 1975
Abstract The point-load test is evaluated for practical applications in engineering geology. The three variations of the test, i.e., diametral, axial and irregular lump are assessed and it is found that the diametral point-load test is most convenient and reliable in use.

Estimation of strength anisotropy using the point-load test

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1983
Abstract As most rocks are of an anisotropic nature, the measurement of the ratio between the maximum and minimum strength, i.e. the strength anisotropy, is of general interest. To measure the strength anisotropy by the uniaxial compression test, core specimens drilled in different directions are needed.

The Effect of Specimen's Height on the Point Load Test

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
In order to use different size of the rock in the site point load tests, select the same site at the scene of specimen do load test research. Through the statistical analysis of 9 groups of the point load strength index data, demonstrates the influence of the test specimen size and shape sample size and shape to rock point load test results, and draws ...
