Points of Load: Performance test in high-B environment

2015 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings, 2015
The performance in magnetic field (B-field) of a DC-DC converter ad hoc designed for LHC operation has been evaluated. The tests have been carried out at the Laboratorio Acceleratori e Superconduttivita Applicata (LASA), in Milan (Italy), in the first months of 2014 and the experimental results are here presented and discussed.

The Point Load Test

Geological Society, London, Engineering Geology Special Publications, 1986
Abstract In the twelve years since the paint load test was introduced, much experience has been gained in its use. This paper reviews published papers reporting constructive criticism of test procedures and case histories.

Comparison of Averaging Procedures for Point Load Testing of Rock

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2008
Abstract This paper presents the experimental results of a laboratory point load testing program carried out to analyze the effect of two different point load mean value calculation procedures on the prediction accuracy of uniaxial compressive strength of rocks.

Point of Load for LHC experiments: Testing the behaviour in hostile environment

2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings, 2014
Devices used in future experiments at LHC will be called to work in a very hostile environment. Power supply is a key aspect in this scenario, and new converters will be re-designed in order to meet the future requirements. Moreover, also Point of Load (PoL) converters, as circuits able to adapt the voltage level for each board, device and situation ...

The point-load test in geotechnical practice

Engineering Geology, 1975
Abstract The point-load test is evaluated for practical applications in engineering geology. The three variations of the test, i.e., diametral, axial and irregular lump are assessed and it is found that the diametral point-load test is most convenient and reliable in use.

Analog/digital testing of loaded boards without dedicated test points

Proceedings International Test Conference 1996. Test and Design Validity, 2002
This paper describes a new way to consider loaded board test fixturing, meeting the challenges of testing high density analog/digital loaded boards, such as mobile phones, camescopes, PCMCIA or fax boards. This method allows board area space savings of 7 to 15%.

The Effect of Specimen's Height on the Point Load Test

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
In order to use different size of the rock in the site point load tests, select the same site at the scene of specimen do load test research. Through the statistical analysis of 9 groups of the point load strength index data, demonstrates the influence of the test specimen size and shape sample size and shape to rock point load test results, and draws ...

Testing the behavior in hostile environment of Points of Load for LHC experiments

Measurement, 2015
Abstract Devices used in future experiments at LHC will have to work in a very hostile environment. Power supply is a key aspect in this scenario and new converters must be designed in order to meet the future requirements. This is particularly true for Point of Load (PoL) converters that, being located as close as possible to the loads, must operate

3D Elastic Solutions for Laterally Loaded Discs: Generalised Brazilian and Point Load Tests

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2013
This paper investigates the application of a double Fourier series technique to the construction of an elastic stress field in a cylindrical bar subject to lateral boundary loads. The lateral loads, including the constant load boundary conditions, are represented by two Fourier series: one on the perimeter of the circular section (r , θ) and the other ...

Point load tests and strength measurements for brittle spheres

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2009
A multiaxial failure criterion for brittle materials is applied to a stress field analysis of a perfectly elastic sphere subjected to diametrically opposite normal forces that are uniformly distributed across small areas on the sphere's surface. Expressions are obtained for an intrinsic strength parameter of the material, as well as its unconfined ...
