Point quadrat versus video transect estimates of the cover of benthic red algae

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 1993
Point quadrat (PQ) and video transect (VT) techniques were compared to determine the feasibility of using the latter to sample subtidal red algal assemblages. More taxa were found by PQs than by VTs, both overall and on a per quadrat basis. VTs tended to overestimate the percent cover of rock and articulated coralline algae.

Drone-Based Ground-Penetrating Radar with Manual Transects for Improved Field Surveys of Buried Ice

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The steep and unstable terrain found on debris-covered glaciers, rock glaciers, talus slopes, moraines and other proglacial features often make terrestrial ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys unsafe or cost-prohibitive.

COMPARISON OF LINE TRANSECTS AND POINT COUNTS FOR MONITORING SPRING MIGRATION IN FORESTED WETLANDS

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology, 2000
Abstract We compared the efficacy of 400-m line transects and sets of three point counts at detecting avian richness and abundance in bottomland hardwood forests and intensively managed cottonwood (Populus deltoides) plantations within the Mississippi Alluvial Valley.

Continuous quantification of forest microclimate temperatures in space and time using fibre‐optic technology

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Most species experience microclimate temperatures, that is, variable and fine‐grained thermal conditions determined by atmospheric conditions interacting with biotic and abiotic components of the earth's surface. Unfortunately, measuring microclimates at
