Stationary configurations of point vortices [PDF]
The motion of point vortices in a plane of fluid is an old problem of fluid mechanics, which was given a Hamiltonian formulation by Kirchhoff. Stationary configurations are those which remain self-similar throughout the motion. Results of two types are presented.

Point vortices on the hyperbolic plane [PDF]
We investigate the dynamical system of point vortices on the hyperboloid. This system has non-compact symmetry SL(2, R) and a coadjoint equivariant momentum map. The relative equilibrium conditions are found and the trajectories of relative equilibria with non-zero momentum value are described.

Applications of point vortex equilibria: blocking events and the stability of the polar vortex [PDF]
The present study investigates non-linear dynamics of atmospheric flow phenomena on different scales as interactions of vortices. Thereby, we apply the idealised, two-dimensional concept of point vortices considering two important issues in atmospheric ...

We investigate the properties of a two-dimensional spinor microcavity polariton system driven by a linearly polarized continuous pump. In particular, we establish the role of the elementary excitations, namely, the so-called half-vortices and full ...

In this study, we geometrically analyze the relation between a point vortex system and deviation curvatures on the Jacobi field. First, eigenvalues of deviation curvatures are calculated from relative distances of point vortices in a three point vortex ...

Polynomial Method for Constructing Equilibrium Configurations of Point Vortices in the Plane
The problem of constructing and classifying stationary and translating configurations of point vortices with an arbitrary choice of circulations is studied.

The merger of two-dimensional radially stratified high-Froude-number vortices [PDF]
We investigate the influence of density inhomogeneities on the merger of two corotating two-dimensional vortices at infinite Froude number. In this situation, buoyancy effects are negligible, yet density variations still affect the flow by pure inertial ...

Massive superfluid vortices and vortex necklaces on a planar annulus
We study a superfluid in a planar annulus hosting vortices with massive cores. An analytical point-vortex model shows that the massive vortices may perform radial oscillations on top of the usual uniform precession of their massless counterpart. Beyond a
