Geometry‐Dependent Adhesion in Transparent Monodomain Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCEs) are emerging as exciting pressure‐sensitive adhesives. We examine adhesion in chemically identical elastomer films, exploring the influence of geometry (director orientation) and phase (nematic or isotropic). We demonstrate the potential of these aligned films as transparent, tunable, broad‐temperature‐range smart ...

Poisson-Delaunay approximation

open access: yes
For a Borel set $A$ and a stationary Poisson point process $η_t$ in $\mathbb R^d$ of intensity $t>0$, the Poisson-Delaunay approximation $ A_{η_t}$ of $A$ is the union of all Delaunay cells generated by $η_t$ with center in $A$. It is shown that $λ_d(A_{η_t})$ is an unbiased estimator for $λ_d(A)$, variance bounds and a quantitative central limit ...

High‐Resolution Characterization of Protein‐Conjugated, mRNA‐Loaded Lipid Nanoparticles by Analytical Ultracentrifugation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles containing messenger RNA are characterized by sedimentation velocity analytical ultracentrifugation using UltraScan's new Custom Grid algorithm to provide multi‐dimensional distributions for partial specific volume (particle density), molar mass, sedimentation, diffusion, and hydrodynamic radius.

Some Poisson Approximations Using Compensators

open access: yesThe Annals of Probability, 1983
The distance between a Poisson and another point process may appropriately be measured by certain norms on the difference between the compensators of the two processes. Bounds on the distance between the random processes are derived here in terms of such norms involving the respective compensators; these extend earlier discrete-time results of \textit ...

Switchable Supramolecular Adhesive by Tuning Interfacial Bonding and Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular adhesive (HyDiP) shows reversible adhesion and recyclability. In the dehydrated state, it is dense, stiff (E ≈445 MPa), transparent, and provides strong bonding with adhesion strengths up to 4.65 MPa. In the hydrated state, it becomes porous, soft (E ≈0.11 MPa), and detaches easily, enabling sustainable high‐strength applications ...

Conditional value-at-risk bounds for compound Poisson risks and a normal approximation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2003
A considerable number of equivalent formulas defining conditional value-at-risk and expected shortfall are gathered together. Then we present a simple method to bound the conditional value-at-risk of compound Poisson loss distributions under incomplete ...

On large deviations for compound mixed Poisson process

open access: yesLietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, 2013
This paper is designated for normal approximation to the distribution function of the compound mixed Poisson process taking into consideration large deviations both in the Cramér and power Linnik zones.

Relative Error of Scaled Poisson Approximation via Stein's Method

open access: yes, 2018
We study the accuracy of a scaled Poisson approximation to the weighted sum of independent Poisson random variables, focusing on in particular the relative error of the tail distribution. We establish a moderate deviation bound on the approximation error

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

From Mechanics to Electronics: Influence of ALD Interlayers on the Multiaxial Electro‐Mechanical Behavior of Metal–Oxide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin AlOxHy interlayers between aluminum films and polymer substrates significantly improve electro‐mechanical properties of flexible thin film systems. By precisely controlling interlayer thickness using atomic layer deposition, this study identifies an optimal interlayer thickness of 5–10 nm that enhances ductility and delays cracking.
