From the binomial to the poisson distribution
Nutrition, 1997“Probability is the reflection of man’s ignorance” as the saying goes, but all too often it is an honest reflection of the available information when dealing with the uncertainties of the future. For example, when having to choose which operation would be safest on a particular patient, surely we would choose the one that has the best chance of success.

The Altham–Poisson distribution [PDF]
The multiplicative binomial model was introduced as a generalization of the binomial distribution for modelling correlated binomial data. This distribution has not been extensively explored and is revisited in the present study. Some properties of the multiplicative binomial distribution, such as, expressions for the factorial moments and the ...

On a characterization of Poisson distributions
Journal of Applied Probability, 1972The conjecture pronounced at the end of the paper of Srivastava and Srivastava (1970) is proved in this paper. It gives the following characterization of (bivariate) Poisson distributions. Suppose that items of two types have been observed certain numbers of times, but these original observations have been reduced due to a destructive process which is ...

A Generalized Poisson Distribution
Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2013Cumulative probabilities of a Poisson distribution can be written in terms of incomplete gamma function where the parameter of the gamma function is an integer. From this definition a new generalization of the Poisson distribution is obtained with two parameters. Asymptotic behavior of this distribution is shown to be normal.

Truncated Poisson Distributions
Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1953Abstract This paper gives a method of estimating the parameter of a Poisson distribution which has been truncated at the lower end. Application is made to a number of actual examples.

The Poisson Binomial Distribution— Old & New
Statistical Science, 2019This is an expository article on the Poisson binomial distribution. We review lesser known results and recent progress on this topic, including geometry of polynomials and distribution learning.

A Note on the Modes of the Poisson Distribution of Order k
The Fibonacci quarterly, 2013It is shown that for any positive integer k and positive parameter lambda less than 2/k(k+1), the Poisson distribution of order k with parameter lambda has a unique mode, 0. In addition, the Poisson distribution of order 2 has a unique mode, 0, if lambda
