Compound Poisson Approximation for Nonnegative Random Variables Via Stein's Method

open access: yesThe Annals of Probability, 1992
The basic aim is to study compound Poisson distribution approximation to sums of independent r.v.'s in the metric of total variation. However, the paper begins with a linear integral equation whose solvability is characterized in terms of compound Poisson measure. The proof uses interesting functional analysis arguments.

A Quantitative Printability Framework for Programmable Assembly of Pre‐Vascular Patterns via Laser‐Induced Forward Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Laser‐Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) is presented as a powerful micropatterning tool. An objective printability framework is developed to assess optimal printing parameter combinations. The technology is further explored for its ability to deterministically deposit microdroplets at predefined locations following CAD designs, enabling the patterning of

Variable transformation to obtain geometric ergodicity in the random-walk Metropolis algorithm

open access: yes, 2012
A random-walk Metropolis sampler is geometrically ergodic if its equilibrium density is super-exponentially light and satisfies a curvature condition [Stochastic Process. Appl. 85 (2000) 341-361].

In Vivo Skin 3‐D Surface Reconstruction and Wrinkle Depth Estimation Using Handheld High Resolution Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A compact handheld GelSight probe reconstructs in vivo 3‐D skin topography with micron‐level precision using a custom elastic gel and a learning‐based surface normal to height map pipeline. The device quantifies wrinkle depth across various body locations and detects changes in wrinkle depth following moisturizer application.

Probing Cellular Activity Via Charge‐Sensitive Quantum Nanoprobes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new quantum sensing modality detects shifts in zero‐field splitting caused by charge rearrangement with diamond nanocrystals in response to cellular activity. These electric‐field‐driven effects provide an alternative to temperature‐based interpretations, enabling real‐time, single‐cell readout of inflammation.

Approximating negative and harmonic mean moments for the Poisson distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Asymptotic expansions and the related approximations are constructed for the negative moments of the Poisson distribution and the moments of the harmonic mean of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Poisson random variable (r.v.).

Nonuniform random geometric graphs with location-dependent radii

open access: yes, 2012
We propose a distribution-free approach to the study of random geometric graphs. The distribution of vertices follows a Poisson point process with intensity function $nf(\cdot)$, where $n\in \mathbb{N}$, and $f$ is a probability density function on ...

PiP‐Plex: A Particle‐in‐Particle System for Multiplexed Quantification of Proteins Secreted by Single Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Detecting proteins secreted by a single cell while retaining its viability remains challenging. A particles‐in‐particle (PiPs) system made by co‐encapsulating barcoded microparticles (BMPs) with a single cell inside an alginate hydrogel particle is introduced.

Mathematical Properties of the Binomial-Poisson Distribution

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management
This study conducts a thorough analytical exploration of the Binomial-Poisson distribution, a compound probability model where the number of Binomial trials follows a Poisson distribution. Through application of the compound distribution methodology and
