Count data are encountered in real-life dealings. More understanding of such data and the extraction of important information about the data require some statistical analysis or modeling.

Functional Poisson approximation in Kantorovich-Rubinstein distance with applications to U-statistics and stochastic geometry [PDF]
A Poisson or a binomial process on an abstract state space and a symmetric function $f$ acting on $k$-tuples of its points are considered. They induce a point process on the target space of $f$.

A new continuous four-parameter lifetime distribution is introduced by compounding the distribution of the maximum of a sequence of an independently identically exponentiated Lomax distributed random variables and zero truncated Poisson random variable ...

Some estimates of the normal approximation for mixture of Poisson and gamma random variables
In the paper, we present the upper bound of Lp norms ∆p of the order (a1 + a2)/(DZ)-1/2 for all 1 0, and the random variable Y by the standard gamma distribution Γ (α, 0, 1) with the parameter α > 0.

A Berry-Esseen theorem for Pitman's $\alpha$-diversity
This paper is concerned with the study of the random variable $K_n$ denoting the number of distinct elements in a random sample $(X_1, \dots, X_n)$ of exchangeable random variables driven by the two parameter Poisson-Dirichlet distribution, $PD(\alpha ...

Correct ordering in the Zipf-Poisson ensemble [PDF]
We consider a Zipf--Poisson ensemble in which $X_i\sim\poi(Ni^{-\alpha})$ for $\alpha>1$ and $N>0$ and integers $i\ge 1$. As $N\to\infty$ the first $n'(N)$ random variables have their proper order $X_1>X_2>...>X_{n'}$ relative to each other, with ...

POISSON APPROXIMATION FOR RANDOM SUMS OF GEOMETRIC RANDOM VARIABLES [PDF]
In this paper, we determine bounds with different Poisson mean for the total variation distance between the distribution of random sums of in- dependent geometric random variables and an appropriate Poisson distribution. Two examples have been given to illustrate the results obtained.

Poisson approximation for independent geometric random variables [PDF]
The Stein-Chen method is used to derive two formulas of uniform and non-uniform bounds on Poisson approximation for a sum of n independent geometric random variables. Application of these formulas is illustrated with the Poisson approximation to the negative binomial distribution.

Large deviations for fractional Poisson processes
We prove large deviation principles for two versions of fractional Poisson processes. Firstly we consider the main version which is a renewal process; we also present large deviation estimates for the ruin probabilities of an insurance model with ...
