A dynamical characterization of Poisson-Dirichlet distributions

open access: yes, 2007
We show that a slight modification of a theorem of Ruzmaikina and Aizenman on competing particle systems on the real line leads to a characterization of Poisson-Dirichlet distributions $PD(a,0)$.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

POISSON APPROXIMATION FOR INDEPENDENT BINOMIAL RANDOM VARIABLES [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pure and Apllied Mathematics, 2014
This paper gives a bound for the total variation distance between the distribution of a sum of independent binomial random variables and an appropriate Poisson distribution with mean P n=1 mipi, where mi and pi = 1 − qi are parameters of each binomial distribution. With this bound, it is indicated that the distribution of the sum can be approximated by

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.

Some properties of degenerate complete and partial Bell polynomials

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2021
In this paper, we study degenerate complete and partial Bell polynomials and establish some new identities for those polynomials. In addition, we investigate the connections between modified degenerate complete and partial Bell polynomials, which are ...

Machine Learning‐Assisted Inverse Design of Soft and Multifunctional Hybrid Liquid Metal Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A machine learning framework is presented for inverse design of synthesizable multifunctional composites containing both liquid metal and solid inclusions. By integrating physics‐based modeling, data‐driven prediction, and Bayesian optimization, the approach enables intelligent design of experiments to identify optimal compositions and realize these ...

Explicit constants in the nonuniform local limit theorem for Poisson binomial random variables

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications
In a recent paper the authors proved a nonuniform local limit theorem concerning normal approximation of the point probabilities P ( S = k ) $P(S=k)$ when S = ∑ i = 1 n X i $S=\sum_{i=1}^{n}X_{i}$ and X 1 , X 2 , … , X n $X_{1},X_{2},\ldots ,X_{n}$ are ...

Degenerate binomial and degenerate Poisson random variables

open access: yes, 2020
The aim of this paper is to study the Poisson random variables in relation to the Lah-Bell polynomials and the degenerate binomial and degenerate Poisson random variables in connection with the degenerate Lah-Bell polynomials. Among other things, we show that the rising factorial moments of the degenerate Poisson random variable with parameter α are ...

A nonuniform local limit theorem for Poisson binomial random variables via Stein’s method

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications
We prove a nonuniform local limit theorem concerning approximation of the point probabilities P ( S = k ) $P(S=k)$ , where S = ∑ i = 1 n X i $S=\sum_{i=1}^{n}X_{i}$ , and X 1 , … , X n $X_{1},\ldots ,X_{n}$ are independent Bernoulli random variables with
