Pharmacovigilance in Poland

Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, 1997
History and current status of monitoring of adverse drug reactions in Poland is presented. The Centre for Monitoring of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) was established in 1971. The number of suspected drug reactions reported varied in subsequent years. In the analysed periods of time 1972-1984 and 1985-1994, 956 and 961 reports were received respectively.

As of July 1991 abortion is still legal in Poland. Currently the Polish Parliament has taken a break from the debate because the issue is so important that any decision must not be made in past. There is strong pressure from the Catholic Church to eliminate access to abortion.

Poland's syndrome [Poland sendromu]

Poland's syndrome (PS) is a rarely encountered congenital disorder that is characterised with absence of pectoralis major muscle. However, hand and other organ anomalies may accompany the syndrome. It is usually right sided. We report the left sided two PS cases.
