Polar bear predation on ringed seals in the fast-ice of Hornsund, Svalbard [PDF]
Polar bear hunting success on ringed seals in subnivean lairs and basking on the fast ice, was studied in Hornsund, Svalbard. A few bears were observed while actually hunting, but in most cases bear tracks were followed by snowmobile to determine the ...

Simplified polar code decoding algorithm
Polar code is an error correction coding technique, which can prove from the mathematical point of view to reach Shannon′s limit. However, the traditional decoding algorithm, such as the successive cancellation(SC) and the successive cancellation list ...

Reading and thinking about International Polar Years: five recent books [PDF]
Within the polar science community the Polar (and Geophysical) Years represent signal events. We often read, largely within geoscience literature, that those events represented positive and dramatic steps forward in international science.

Aerial strip surveys of polar bears in the Barents Sea [PDF]
Aerial strip surveys of polar bears in the Barents Sea were performed by helicopter in winter 1987. The number of bears within 100 m on each side of the helicopter was counted. A total of 263.6 km2 was surveyed and 21 bears were counted.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Novel polar-coded space-time transmit diversity scheme over Rician fading MIMO channels
In this paper, a polar-coded space-time transmit diversity (STTD) scheme is proposed in order to improve the performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system.

International code for ships operating in polar waters: challenges to polar shipping safety rules in China [PDF]
With the sea-ice diminishing steadily in the polar regions, there has been growing interest in new transit routes through polar waters using cost-effective transportation. Among the international regulators over polar shipping, the International Maritime
