The crystal structures of three new ternary compounds, NaCd0.92Sn1.08 (I), Na(Cd0.28Sn0.72)2 (II), and Na2CdSn5 (III) synthesized in a sodium-cadmium-tin system were determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis to be the following: (I) LiGeZn-type ...

Caloric effects around phase transitions in magnetic materials described by ab initio theory : the electronic glue and fluctuating local moments [PDF]
We describe magneto-, baro-, and elastocaloric effects (MCEs, BCEs, and eCEs) in materials, which possess both discontinuous (first-order) and continuous (second-order) magnetic phase transitions.

H-T Phase Diagram of Rare-Earth -- Transition Metal Alloy in the Vicinity of the Compensation Point [PDF]
Anomalous hysteresis loops of ferrimagnetic amorphous alloys in high magnetic field and in the vicinity of the compensation temperature have so far been explained by sample inhomogeneities.

High-resolution resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering as a probe of the crystal electrical field in lanthanides demonstrated for the case of CeRh2Si2 [PDF]
The magnetic properties of rare earth compounds are usually well captured by assuming a fully localized f shell and only considering the Hund's rule ground state multiplet split by a crystal electrical field (CEF).

Rhombohedral Distortion of the Cubic MgCu2-Type Structure in Ca2Pt3Ga and Ca2Pd3Ga
Two new fully ordered ternary Laves phase compounds, Ca2Pt3Ga and Ca2Pd3Ga, have been synthesized and characterized by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction along with electronic structure calculations.

Single crystal growth and characterization of the large-unit-cell compound Cu13Ba [PDF]
Single crystals of Cu$_{13}$Ba were successfully grown out of Ba-Cu self flux. Temperature dependent magnetization, $M(T)$, electrical resistivity, $\rho(T)$, and specific heat, $C_p(T)$, data are reported.
