Polarimetric RCS Calibration using Reference Reflectors

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2005
A new polarimetric radar cross section (RCS) calibration technique using two reference reflectors is developed and verified experimentally in the anechoic chamber of Multimedia University. The antenna system and the two orthogonal channels are modeled as a two-port network.

Monostatic polarimetric calibration via target spinor

Proceedings of IGARSS '94 - 1994 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
A new polarimetric calibration method is proposed based in the scattering matrix decomposition, via Pauli matrices, which works with target spinor instead of the scattering matrix. The base elements of target spinor are the target spinor corresponding to the usual calibrators like sphere, dihedral and 45/spl deg/ rotated dehedral.

A general polarimetric radar calibration technique

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1991
A polarimetric radar calibration procedure is introduced and verified with experimental results. The procedure requires measurements of three known targets in order to determine the distortion matrices that characterize the effect of the measurement system on the transmitted and received waves.

Calibration of bistatic polarimetric radar systems

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1992
A calibration technique for laboratory type polarimetric, bistatic instrumentation radars is presented. It describes the errors induced by the standard radiation transfer approach (I-SRT) in a way similar to that for the monostatic case. A 12-term error correction and absolute polarimetric calibration is performed with two external reference targets ...

Polarimetric radar calibration using distributed target

IEEE 1999 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. IGARSS'99 (Cat. No.99CH36293), 2003
Accurate knowledge of the polarization scattering matrix is essential for understanding physical properties of the target. Conventional calibration uses a point target located in the boresight of the antenna. This calibration assumes that it is sufficient to measure amplitude and phase in one point of the antenna pattern.

New polarimetric calibration technique using a single calibration dihedral

IEE Proceedings - Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation, 1995
A new polarimetric RCS calibration technique using a dihedral corner reflector as the single calibration target is presented. This scheme is valid for any monostatic or quasi-monostatic radar system and characterised by five aspects: (a) scattering matrix measurements of only a single calibration dihedral at two orientations are needed; (ii) the ...

Polarimetric Calibration Using a Genetic Algorithm

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2007
This letter presents a novel calibration approach to polarimetric synthetic aperture radar using distributed targets with known scattering characteristics. A genetic algorithm with complex-valued encoding is proposed to solve the overdetermined system of nonlinear equations associated with the polarimetric calibration problem.

Calibration of polarimetric PHARUS data

1998
This paper presents a procedure for the calibration of polarimetric PHARUS data, based on the JPL POLCALprocedure, including some first results. Because the phase differences between the various polarizationchannels of PHARUS turned out to be range dependent, the procedure had to be adapted by calibrating the phasebefore conversion to Stokes matrix ...
