Wideband polarimetric radar imaging

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium 1992 Digest, 1992
Summary form only given. The relationship of the polarization dependence of the corresponding radar cross-section matrices in the frequency domain with that of the target eigen-resonance maps is demonstrated, leading to the concept of polarimetric wavelets, which offers a useful interpretative tool for polarimetric UWB (ultrawideband) target versus ...

Polarimetric Radar for Accurate Navigation

Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 1987
A novel and commercially viable solution to the problem of blind navigation of a ship along a confined waterway is described. The solution is based on the use of radar polarimetry. At the heart of the system is a patented passive (nonpowered) retrodirective reflector that is capable of rotating the incident polarization through 90°.

Advanced Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar Simulator

2014 15th International Radar Symposium (IRS), 2014
The Advanced Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar Simulator (APDWRS) capable of generating I&Q time series voltages for a ground based fully-polarimetric Doppler weather radar is described in this paper. The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model is used in conjunction with the T-Matrix code to generate radar signals according to the propagation ...

Polarimetric MIMO radar target detection

2016 CIE International Conference on Radar (RADAR), 2016
Polarimetric Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar has multiple antennas of different polarimetric directions to transmit and receive signals. For signals in four transmit/receive polarimetric channels, the detection performance is studied via three target detection algorithms, i.e., the Bayesian optimal detection, the coherent accumulation ...

High resolution polarimetric FMCW radar

Proceedings of IGARSS '93 - IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
The Monash FMCW radar has been successful in detecting and locating defects in natural and man-made dielectrics (eg. defects in sawmill wood), with a range resolution, of 2 cm in wood. The authors show how to improve this resolution and provide polarimetric capability, which is important in anisotropic and optically active materials.

Sparse modeling for polarimetric radar

2011 IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP), 2011
In this paper, we develop a sparse model to represent the data recorded by a polarimetric, coherent radar. We produce this model defining an over-complete library of possible target responses in the range-polarization space. Then, we employ compressive sensing methods to infer the position and the scattering matrix of the target. Using real radar data,

Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar

2001
This 2001 book provides a detailed introduction to the principles of Doppler and polarimetric radar, focusing in particular on their use in the analysis of weather systems. The design features and operation of practical radar systems are highlighted throughout the book in order to illustrate important theoretical foundations.

Adaptive polarimetric MIMO radar detection

2010 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communication Systems, 2010
This paper mainly deals with the target detecting problem using polarimetric Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO) radar with unknown covariance matrix. And the GLRT-based receiver is devised by resorting to the two-step design procedure. Specifically, the GLRT is devised with known covariance, and then, a suitable estimate of covariance is ...

A Novel Polarimetric Marine Radar

2016
Considering the poor anti-interference performance of the current marine radar, a novel marine radar based on polarization technology is proposed in this paper. Aiming at the structural characteristics of the floating targets on the sea, this paper analyses the polarization scattering characteristics of the marine radar targets, and based on the fact ...

Digital simulation of polarimetric radars

SIMULATION, 1984
A new generation of radar systems that exploit the polarizing characteristics of various targets and clutter are under develop ment. These radars utilize the high-range resolution techniques of frequency-agile fast Fourier transform techniques and are a radical departure from conventional pulse radar.
