Chalcogenide-glass polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber for mid-infrared supercontinuum generation

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, we report the design and fabrication of a highly birefringent polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF) made from chalcogenide glass, and its application to linearly-polarized supercontinuum (SC) generation in the mid ...

Understanding the Role of Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity in Salt‐Spray Corrosion of Nanosecond Pulsed Laser‐Textured AA2024 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

Optical solitons and envelop propagation patterns in birefringent polarization-preserving fiber

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
The optical propagation in the birefringence polarization-preserving fiber is modeled by the nonlinear Schrödinger equations system including the effect of four-wave mixing. A general trial equation method for complex coupled system is introduced to give

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

All fiber polarization insensitive detection for spectrometer based optical coherence tomography using optical switch

open access: yes, 2019
Polarization dependent image artifacts are common in optical coherence tomography imaging. Polarization insensitive detection scheme for swept source based optical coherence tomography systems is well established but is yet to be demonstrated for all ...

Shaping of Biohybrid Functional Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a strategy for shaping living mycelium into functional materials by directing its natural growth. Nanoparticles armor hyphae, micron‐scale particles entangle within the network, and printed hydrogel architectures steer expansion, creating defined geometries.

Fabrication of Pyridinic Nitrogen‐Functionalized Carbon Cloth for High‐Performance Iron‐Chromium Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The carbon cloth electrode with targeted pyridinic nitrogen doping, achieved via urea pyrolysis, effectively modulates the adsorption of Cr(II) species and enhances electron transfer, leading to significantly improved kinetics of the Cr(II)/Cr(III) reaction. The material demonstrates a high discharge capacity of 689.3 mAh and an energy efficiency of 72.

Experimental and Numerical Study on Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in a Spun Optical Fiber

open access: yesSensors
This paper presents a numerical and experimental investigation of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a highly birefringent spun optical fiber. When subjected to bending, the variation in the state-of-polarization (SOP) of the pump and probe waves ...

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

Two-photon interference using background-free quantum frequency conversion of single photons from a semiconductor quantum dot

open access: yes, 2012
We show that quantum frequency conversion (QFC) can overcome the spectral distinguishability common to inhomogeneously broadened solid-state quantum emitters.
