Three-color Sagnac source of polarization-entangled photon pairs

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate a compact and stable source of polarization-entangled pairs of photons, one at 810 nm wavelength for high detection efficiency and the other at 1550 nm for long-distance fiber communication networks.

Demonstration of biaxially tensile-strained Ge/SiGe multiple quantum well (MQW) electroabsorption modulators with low polarization dependence

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
We demonstrate a novel biaxially tensile-strained Ge/SiGe multiple quantum well (MQW) electroabsorption modulator with low polarization dependence. The device is waveguide integrated and has a length of 900 μm. Suspended microbridge structure is utilized

Polarization-preserving confocal microscope for optical experiments in a dilution refrigerator with high magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present the design and operation of a fiber-based cryogenic confocal microscope. It is designed as a compact cold-finger that fits inside the bore of a superconducting magnet, and which is a modular unit that can be easily swapped between use in a ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

Efficient and spectrally bright source of polarization-entangled photons

open access: yes, 2004
We demonstrate an efficient fiber-coupled source of nondegenerate polarization entangled photons at 795 and 1609 nm using bidirectionally pumped parametric down-conversion in bulk periodically poled lithium niobate. The single-mode source has an inferred

Near-infrared Hong-Ou-Mandel interference on a silicon quantum photonic circuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Near-infrared Hong-Ou-Mandel quantum interference is observed in silicon nanophotonic directional couplers with raw visibilities on-chip at 90.5%. Spectrally-bright 1557-nm two-photon states are generated in a periodically-poled KTiOPO4 waveguide chip ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Numerical Study of Parabolic Pulse Generation in Backward-Pumped Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
In this paper, the actual shape of the gain spectrum and the whole dispersion curve of the Er-doped fiber are employed in the vectorial coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation to model the parabolic pulse (similariton) generation in the backward ...
