Optical polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) can double the capacity of a communication system. In this paper, PDM between a conventional fiber-optic channel and a chaos-encrypted channel, and between two chaos-encrypted channels, is proposed and experimentally investigated.

Optics Letters, 1995
I analyze by numerical simulation and perturbation theory the effect of frequency-sliding filters on the interactions between orthogonally polarized solitons. It is found that strong filters may substantially increase the collision distance.

Integration of Ultrathin Metasurfaces with a Lens for Efficient Polarization Division Multiplexing
Advanced Optical Materials, 2019AbstractIntegration of an ultrathin (≈0.08 λ), flexible bilayer metasurface with a conventional lens is proposed to independently control two orthogonally polarized waves. By judiciously selecting the building blocks of the metasurfaces, several control functionalities are demonstrated such as generating Bessel beams and off‐axis and on‐axis focusing ...

Simulation of link property on 40Gbit/s polarization division multiplexing transmission
SPIE Proceedings, 2006Polarization Division Multiplexing (PDM) transmission system is simulated. Two types of PDM system are simulated in order to find important variables for transmission. Both 10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s case are examined for comparison. Signal modulations are NRZ and RZ.

Cross-polarization modulation in polarization-division multiplexed transmission systems
IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topicals 2010, 2010We introduce the concept of stochastic degrees of freedom to semi-analytically approximate the distribution of nonlinear degree of polarization reduction values observed in numerical simulations as result of cross-polarization modulation.

The Polarization Division Multiplexing VSB transmission for terrestrial broadcasting systems
IEEE international Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting, 2012In this paper, we present a Polarization Division Multiplexing (PDM)-Vestigial Sideband (VSB) transmission technique for advanced terrestrial broadcasting systems. The PDM-VSB transmission combines a PDM composing of polarization states and rotation matrices, and VSB filtering in order to improve both spectral efficiency and reception performance of ...

Direct-Detection Receiver for Polarization-Division-Multiplexed OOK Signals
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2015We propose a direct-detection receiver capable of detecting polarization-division-multiplexed (PDM) ON-OFF keying (OOK) signals without using a dynamic polarization controller. The proposed receiver, consisted of a polarization-beam splitter, three $1\times 2$ directional couplers, three photodetectors, three analog-to-digital converters, and a ...

Polarization Division Multiplexing for Optical Data Communications
2019Multiple parallel channels are ubiquitous in optical communications, with spatial division multiplexing (separate physical paths) and wavelength division multiplexing (separate optical wavelengths) being the most common forms. In this research work, we investigate the viability of polarization division multiplexing, the separation of distinct parallel ...

Power unbalanced polarization-division-multiplexing for efficient bandwidth utilization
Technical Digest. Summaries of papers presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Postconference Edition. CLEO '99. Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (IEEE Cat. No.99CH37013), 2003Summary form only given. There has recently been a capacity explosion of optical fiber links due to techniques such as WDM. However, WDM high-capacity systems are straining to accommodate either smaller channel wavelength spacing or wider wavelength range in order to continue the growth in capacity.
